History of XR2

Can anybody give a quick overview of the history of the Merc XR2? Like when it was first/last produced, when any major changes took place, who sold them, etc. Assume the originals were all 20" with CLE? Were there any options available over the years (SM gearcase, etc)? Any and all info appreciated!

Peter Bloomfield had the first "bits" for an "XR2" back in 1982. (Which he used in Florida in the 3D Worlds).

Neil Holmes can give you more information from there -

First time we saw an XR2 in production and used for race boats in the UK was in 1985.

It is a small concern for me - Nearly 30 years ago I had one of those things on the back of my 3C Catamaran!
