Matt once jockingly askee how old does an unused product have to be before it isnt new anymore..............it was a jibe at my boat.

however (and i've seen them advertised), surely a 70's egg whisk cant be 'new' anymore!

A mate of mine bought one for his Fletcher when his Merc went bang. It went well but had no trim and tilt.

I think Bill Higham imported them from Saudi but I could be wrong. I was under the imression that the biggest ones were about 90hp so the 140 on the ad would appear to be original 70's.

Didn't Mercury buy Chrysler outboards and re-badge/re-engineer in to Force.?

Certainly did, they improved the later ones by fitting the mercury leg.

The Chrysler brand existed from the early 60's till about 84 when they peaked at 150hp.

My guess is the one pictured is from the mid 70's to early 80's.

Some interesting early race outboard stuff at http://www.outboardracing.com/motors.htm

I don't say much on here, infact i say nothing on here, but why the hell would anyone care how old that is?

What a peice of crap engine. I speak from experience, having been unfortunate enough to own a Chrysler outboard, it was far better suited to being an anchor.

A question was asked. I think we were all trying to be helpful with our responses. My apologies if your time has been wasted reading them. Will try to do better next time.
