[QUOTE=Jon Fuller;172872]Pete, this is probably a stupid question, but have you checked your lock to lock turns on the drives to ensure no 'intercourse' will occure tween drive & tab with the positions you've used?[/QUOTE

An even stupider question; how come the tab's aren't in flush with the hull?

Love the boat! And the engines are pure pornography. I've had the pleasure of driving a boat (or "RIB" as to not offend Fuller ) with an Ilmor 625 and it sounds and goes like a mustard-injected cat. The owner was immensely satisfied with the quality as well, so you should be in for a treat! Just remember to bring plenty of credit cards and add waypoints at every petrol station available. Might even be a good idea to buy some stocks in BP - their revenues should skyrocket with this beast on the water .

Hi Jon,
See enclosed picture, Kplanes parallel, steering on full starboard lock & there is roughly 10mm of clearance so hopefully the only "intercourse" that will be taking place wil be in "THE COCKPIT"

Hi Mr PhatFrank,
What i am trying to achieve with the trim tabs mounted as close to the drives as possible is a boat that rides true & straight when leaving & re-entering the water, so by mounting them low down we should be able to correct a beam wind list with a lot less angle of attack on the tab thereby reducing the tendency to tab roll on re-entry. I also have some ideas about changing the underwater shape of the tabs but i will try them flat first.

Hi Boatless Again,
Have spoken to Ilmor, the shafts are made out of a heat treated alloy steel & are completley rustless & there is a taper on the shaft to increase it's strength raher than a square shoulder which could produce a fracture point.

My "chestnuts" Are Thawing Out Very Nicely!!

Took Cheetah out today for a blast up the solent to make sure she is in top form for a run to Poole on New Years Day, also had a run up to Bursledon the wind chill made it extremely cold, it must be the first time that Cheetah has ever been out and never exceeded 50 knots, it was just too cold to go any faster.Didn't see anyone else out there must be all "SOFT SOUTHERNERS".

Peter. Do you have any pictures of original Cheetah!

PS Very brave going out today. 6 hours at Paltons park and 6 hours to defrost myself, without the wind chill

Flow Coating

Hi All,
Applied a mix of resin & gel to transom & cut out apertures a few days ago then flatted it back ready for the final flow coat today. Will fit transom shields & trim tabs thursday permanently, then we will be ready for dropping the engines in to start fabrication of engine mounts & exhausts.

Installation Of K. Planes

Hi All,
Decided to give the transom a quick power mop before installation of machinery as it is easier to mop a flat surface with no protruding parts.I then had a dummy fit of the k-plane brackets, i then carefully masked around the edges then removed k-plane brackets & applied a liberal dose of stickaflex to the back of the k-plane & mounting bolt shanks then on the inside applied a liberal dose of silicon underneath the stainless steel nuts & washers & then torqued up the bolts which then squoze a nice bead of stickaflex onto the pre applied masking tape which i then removed with the end of a steel rule. After leaving to semi cure for about an hour i then carefully removed the pre applied masking tape to leave a very nice & clean bead.

THATS IT!! TILL BOXING DAY when i will be fitting the transom shields we would like to wish everybody a very mery christmas & a prosperous new year

Mounting The Transom Shields

Here are a few pictures from todays efforts.I used exactly the same technique for mounting the transom shields as the previously described mounting for k-plane brackets.Next job is to drop in the starboard engine, tomorrow possibly time for a nice glass of red.

Playing with my Ilmors

Hi all,
Here are a selection of photographs from the trial fit of the starboard engine, as with all new projects you occasionally hit a snag & i am going to have to reduce the height of the central engine bearer by about 100ml because i can't get to the starter motor bolts or the fuel pump, so i will carry out modifications to make service ability much easier.I usually find when i hit a snag it gives a little time for reflection & new ideas,so the solid mounts were originally going to be fabricated from stainless steel but i have now decided to have some carbon fibre angle made which will be both stronger & lighter & bond to the engine bearers better than the stainless, so all in all not a bad day.We are off down to Hamble now until the 4th january to play with the old Cheetah, wouldn't want her to feel left out!! It's quite nice having 3 felines!!! to play with

We Think Cheetah Might Have A Bit!! Of P.m.t.

Hi All,
Launched Cheetah today but unfortunately on starting the engines the starboard engine diagnostic system came up with a fault code suggesting there was a problem with the gear shift actuator, so rang Jason from Seapower & he very kindly brought me out a new actuator which i then fitted which didn't cure the problem!! so changed back to the original, as we were running short of time we decided to call it a day.We will plug in Volvo's diagnostic tool a week on friday to see if we can get to the bottom of the problem, so unfortunately the run to Poole is off so we will go & play on THE QUAD INSTEAD

WE WOULD LIKE TO WISH EVERYONE ON BOATMAD A HAPPY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR

All The Best
