That is a very good point. Check to see if it applies in your case.

Importing Boat from USA

My boat is about to ship from the USA to the UK & I have been told by shipper and as posted that if (as it is) has been owned over 6 months + and all previous taxes paid then no VAT is liable. I simply cannot find on the web any definitive rulings or reference. If it is then liable, is the purchase price for VAT the reference the original (1976) manufacturers price or the price I paid As this Seacraft has been completely rebuilt any views on how they would establish a value? Any more guidance gratefully accepted!!!
Thanks .....
Rgds
Chris

VAT calculation is a percentage of the value of the boat as it stands, you will need documented evidence of its value! IE, purchase invoice with the price you paid, any invoices for further work( if you have them ) and the cost of shipping and the duty!

Seacraft in the UK

OK - Thanks for all the brilliant advice - well appreciated . We are importing my Seacraft ( as suggested by germansaleen) together with all our personal possessions as we are returning to the UK from the USA. As it stands advice also from here & from the shippers is that this way we will not have to pay import duty or Vat on any items owned over 6 months that have tax paid here in the USA. We will soon find out....!!!!

Question: Are there any other classic Seacraft owners out there in the UK? The classic Seacraft (pre1983) have a strong reputation over here as they are strong handling & quick , they have a great USA following & website http://www.classicseacraft.com

If there are any other known Seacraft in the UK then please do let me know thru this forum.

Seacraft Arrived

The Seacraft made it to the the UK from the USA on RORO as part of the relocation of our personal belongings. No tax or duties payable. (!)
Now in process of CE technical survey being booked, does anybody recommend an appropriate resource to do this in the Salcombe/Dartmouth area? I am now looking forward to enjoying it pace and handling in this area this Summer

The RYA and the BMF will be able to help you with that - some surveyors do CE work.
