Inland waters for speed boats

Hi to everyone out there!

As someone fairly new to speed boating, can anyone help me find a lake or some water around the midlands where we can test our boat after repairs etc.

Around Birmingham:

There is a lake off the M42 just north of the M6 junction, where they use to hold circuit racing.

Also Chasewater - but not sure of access nowadays.

The National Center for rowing was not a general 'all commers' venue, I had to make special arrangements, and book a time when the rowers were not going to be using the lake. They were however very very helpful.
