I've got wood....

...on the top of my rear bulkhead that I need to paint along with the rest of the boat. That bit at the front of the engine bay that I replaced.

At the moment it's just bare ply but ultimately it'll be painted along with the rest of the hull.

Question is, what should I do to prep for this? I was thinking a couple of layers of resin, flat, 3 flowcoat, smoothing the last one, then sand until ready for paint. Paint will be 2 pack by the way.

Is that a good plan, or is there anything else I should do? There's plenty of silky smooth painted wooden boats out there (I own one!), so how do they do it?

Cheers, James

Aha. I've heard of that before. Just remembered I've got the engine hatch to do too! I must get some of that then!

Cheers, James

Saturate the wood with epoxy two pack to seal the grain first then international paint it with primer undercoat etc rub down between each coat double gloss finish for best protection with marine enamel & flo coat.Polish up if required.
Then put a whacking great sticker with the boat name on the inside of the engine hatch-a hydraulic lifting ram would finish this off nicely.
