I know this cat used to race in the UK with a single engine and at some point it rolled due to it high centre of gravity, has anyone got any more information about this old race boat?

Do you think it will make a safe pleasure boat with the right engine setup?

Going to have a look at it next week, have you any idea if it will make a good pleasure boat?
It seems to have been a bit unstable when first built as the engine (single) sat up high.
Most cats use twins low down to keep the centre of gravity down.
I have read other posts on this boat and it never seems to have performed very well even when it was first raced.

Yeah, it was a bit of a failure. I never saw it perform properly at all, In fact, we lapped it at Torquay in our 'T' class boat.

It just never seemed to get to the point where the prop gripped, and it got unstuck and flew.

Just looking at the pic there seems very little to aid recovery on the front end, slightly short pickle for the boat length but that’s not to bad depending how it runs. Spray rails in the tunnel should be a bit larger at the front same for those on the outside of the sponsons, this is speculation and IMHO only. If it's only for pleasure does it really matter, & depends where you would run it. What power would you put it. If nothing else it would be a good project. I'd guess the cockpit could come forward a bit to help with the weight distribution. If you’re going to look at it get some tunnel depth measurements at Bow, Mid & Stern as well as the running surfaces If it never run well it may be the lift generated by the tunnel but it could be a simple drive power, prop issue. All guesses, don’t you just love speculation. Collect as much info as you can the get a copy of secret of tunnel hull design or the software off of Jim (Jimboat on the Forum here). Then work out your numbers & info. Could be worth investing in this before buying, a much cheaper in the long run option.

Not knocking the design or anything it's just by using the program you can save a lot of time & money and see exactly what you should change if anything.

Thanks I will let you know the outcome after I have viewed it.
The boat will be run on flat water most of the time I was thinking of Arneson/BPM setup for drive. I notice on an old video the boat run a SSMVI on an extension box, problem being it’s a long hull for 1 drive! To get a good bit in the water.

Didn´t Colin Stoneman buy the whole lot from Richard Carr - Cougar mono, cougar cat, tow rig and AC Cobra (kit)?? They all had stunning paint jobs. In fact referring to Carr´s other steed for a moment, Tekne Lamborghini, the hull that went to Italy was one of the most beautiful paint jobs ever IMHO. I think it raced after as Saint Orsola. After that who knows......

Cobra was as genuine as can be if bought new, ie' Autocraft Cobra., built under licence from AC Cars, Thames Ditton

It was bought in 97 to Finland painted yellow and raced a few years as D-35 "pennzoil cat".It was still racing in the 4 litre worlds in Gibraltar 2001? and came third.
It got another paint at some point.

After that it was sold to another finn who put more weight in it and took it to the middle east to compete in the 6 litre series with Xr 2:s

Thats another sad story but there it still is,nowadays with two yamahas....
