Lifting Slings / Strops

I want to own my own crane lifting slings and require some advice on ideal length.
My Cougar is 27' long and have 3 lifting points, 2 at the stern & 1 on the bow.
Do i..
1. have all 3 slings at the same length and what would be the ideal length..?
or
2. have the 2 stern slings shorter than the bow sling and again at what ideal lengths...?

Thanks in advance for any advive given.
Mark

A level lift is always the best.

Hi Childsy

Would be interested to hear the replies on this one as it is something I have been thinking about too, owning my own set of slings. I did heard a rumor that they have to be inspected and certified periodically, can anyone shed light on this ?

lifting

if you had your own crane ,lifted and stropped it yourself with no one around,, your safe,, the minute anyone anywhere is also involved then it comes under Loler and Acops rulings, of the HSE, and even more rulings if in a dockyard,, end of the day its a small boat that weighs more or less nothing compaired to what some of these cranes can lift, but are you willing to put your lifes work floating round in the air on strops that,,, "you thought were strong enough"????
Get a notable crane company to come out and give you a quote for a "contract lift",, this is where they bare the burden of the lift and insurance and also they have to under loler regulations, put everything in writing,,, which will then give you all you need on information on your lift ,,,strop sizing and lift capability size of crane needed,
Free of charge :o)
