How about marinising one of these....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-S4-BBK-4-...es_CarParts_SM

Its a lightweight Audi V8 out of an S4. Std is 340hp and relatively easily tuned to 400hp+.

At around 200kg it's less than half the weight of a BB Merc (think they're just over 500kg) so your power to weight would be much better.

While we're in cuckoo land, why not contact Al Melling and get him to rustle up a pair of AJP V8s.

Dry Sump, 450hp coupled with 400 ftlb, 75 degree V so fit side by side, 120kg max each. Will happily sit at 7 - 9000 rpm for a Tuscan race but produces all the torque at around 5000 rpm so great for our purposes

Flat plane crank too so would make a brilliant sound!

Header pipes need to be exact length per cylinder to get the whole benefit of the flat plane but doable. Reversion would be a problem but easily solved with a simple 4 inch drainage system. Might want clay rather upvc though.

Now we've just got to think about drives. We've already established the Bravo 1 as fairly bullet proof with petrol engines so let's get one of your 2 into 1 thingys but the other way round and have a single drive to reduce gearbox losses and add excitement to the drive with the ensuing propwalk off a 40 inch pitch.

Or even get him to do one of them speed twelve jobbies where he cuts two speed six engines in half and glues them back together as a V12 and gets 800bhp out of 250kg and then ask him to do the same with a pair of Bravo drives. Side by side counter rotating props out of one drive.

Rubbing strip would have to be faired out, cleats would have to be invisible, nav lights should be unrecognisable as lights and boat would have to be painted in a flip colour of course.

I'm not helping am I?

I have a boat???? Feck!

OK, seriously. I lost all of June & July as a result of a cycling race crash. That said, I'm getting on with it slowly, but not in any particular hurry as it's relaxation, not stress.
All the structures are in, fuel tank is in, floor is down, seats molded. (Had to do the seats to be able to plan where the seat mounts needed to go in the floor before I stuck it down). Need a manic laminating day (weekend really, knowing me) to finish up and then I can start the counselling to break the acetone addiction for a while.

At first I was reading intently thinking you were being serious, then slowly the cogs ticked away and I started to realise, leaving me in fits by the end of it!

Marinised Audi V8 would be interesting, is it all revs and no torque though? I know a lot people have failed badly using car engines!
