Unhappy Loan Shark Crash Photos

Loan Shark Crash Photos

My appologies for the focus, but it was hazy and the turn was about a half a mile away from me.....

Dan and Rob are doing ok. I am sure they are both feeling like they got run over by a train...

I wish them a quick recovery and hope they get the boat fixed soon...

That just goes to show, being in a canopied race boat doesn't make you into superman!

That's a pretty substantial looking structure, or at least was.

Lucky fellas!!

seems to be a lot of damage for a straight forward flip, in the last two seasons we have had two 6 litre cats with f-16's fitted go over on corners with no structural damage

I agree the amount of damage is surprising. Is this part of the boat made in Kevlar or some other material?

I would hope so, but can't tell being as it is painted over. I don't believe the delamination portion was Kevlar...But don't really know for sure.

Well it’s sure flexed in unsupported areas, Rather than a material failure it more of a design thing just needing a few more support structures. Some bits just need extending others adding, stronger lip around the hatch for sure. Surprised there isn’t more “beef around the hatch hinge points & the screens are fixed through with caps rather than an external strip sitting over the “polly” to spread fastener/screen load.
What is the screen thickness?
Material strength is so temperature dependant hence Aircraft screens are heated to improve the impact resistance. If it was me I’d copy what Boeing use for unheated screens (DV/side windows) mainly on the grounds I’ve bounced birds at 300 Knots off them in the past with no problems. Mind you ya still fekken duck when you see it coming

Did hear of a company who kept getting failures of screens on 'bird strike' testing. Could not work out why - until some bright spark realised they were not fully de-thawing their frozen chickens!
