Thanks for all the info guys.. I figured I check this site because I see a lot more of these boats in your area rather than back here in the states....

Heres what I am looking to do, and you guys tell me what you think. A buddy of mine just purchased a Lycoming T-53 turbine..
Its the 860hp version.. He only has the one so we were looking for a good sized effecient single engine V bottom to put it in. The b-28 if one of the few that popped into my head. Also, i know these boats run great w/ not much power.. the turbine may be a little too much but, you can set the governor on it. Do you guys think it will fit in the bilge. Its roughly 5 ft long before adding exhaust provisions..

I remember looking in the back of ian blackers boat and im sure it was bigger than 5 foot, there was a big fuel tank and still room to stand inside, hutchy will know, he had the pleasure of crawling inside when he modified the wings

I think it would be a tight squeeze, but heck you going to have to cut & mod the boatanyway so to incorp a bit of extra space seems not that much extra work really.
860 is quite reserved for that unit you can easily go to 1100 some cases 1400+.
Transmission is the nut kicker but I'm sure MTT & Turbine Marine can help out there.
Sure be quick thats for sure, Some guys here can put you in to contact with the people that run them.
Been playing around with an old APU GTC-85 but it's more of a time waster than a serious project, it's nowhere near as applicable as the t-53 for Marine use. Have fun

Blu fin,

This is a t-53 L-1B which is only 860hp. IF ran over 100% it will make 925 I believe but theres no sense in stressing the motor if not needed. The t53 L13's are a newer version making 1400hp and the L-703's make 1800hp...

what does a B-28 weigh. We were hoping if we can govern the motor to say around 700hp we can get away w/ running a Bravo XR (no tranny needed). We would just need to run a brake system to slow down N2 shaft speed. What would a B-28 run w/ say 700hp and how stable would it run?

Bloody Quick, You need to chat with Hutch, Ian Becker, ect.

Ref an N2 Brake how will that affect the Turbine temp, with a reduced mass airflow over the turbine, would it not overheat the turbine a bit? How have Turbine marine & MTT done it?
see http://www.t53.com/ have parts up sometime, used them for JT8 stuff in the past it's really dakota air parts but they do have clerance sales of stuff. keep an eye on it some times it's best offer.

No, the turbine brake doesnt affect the turbine at all.
You can completely stop N2 for a least a minute or so.
Several have done this in marine applications.
Its basically a car rotor and caliper between the grearbox on the turbine and the transmission(in most cases). N1 will slow a bit, but, no harm is done.

Check my page out here. I posted vids of a 46 Turbine powered Skater in my area that I rode on.

It is powered by T-53 L703's I believe. He is running the disc brake setup powered by an electric-hydraulic motor. In the one video of it coming in you can hear him activate the brake a couple times. While we were in the boat he held the brakes, while drifting in, for a good minute. Said it doens hurt anything. He is running SCS crashboxes and Merc #6's... The boat hasnt missed a weekend yet and has run right around 190 w/out water injetion and more to go... Can you say reliable as all hell...

Yes, I have seen a fighterplane with a side by side canopy, I have seen a side by side canopy on a V24? The question is not about fighter planes or about V24's. But as per my post, I have *never* seen a side by side canopy on a B28, and the only canopy style I have ever seen on a B28 is the one behind.

( except the pleasure version with a semi canopy, which is more like a windscreen than a canopy! )

Ok My jokes didn´t get thru ...I meant that the Batboat is a proper raceboat ..thats why it hasn´t a side by side seating.
Just like a Proper fighterplane.

There is a side by side b28 canopied boat around, it raced 6ltr/4ltr in the worlds held in Rimmini a few years back. Think it was Scandenavian. Nice looking boat, did'nt go very well though.
