'Waterbird'

Ski racing boat, twin AvGas Mod VP's

Belonged to a bird in Jersey who ski raced behind it.

originally raced behind I think, by Steve Moore.

2 x 275 hp, alleged to run just over the ton, but the accelaration was fkkn breathtaking!

They're a fantastic ride! real soft, and the tunnel in that cat is pretty narrow, I reckon it's every bit as safe as a similar sized mono.

Yeah, a mate and I had a trip to the airport to get 90 galls of avgas. It's tax free in Jersey, but they'll only put it in a plane, no cans/drums.

I had a mate with a plane, the fuel firm were filling one wing tank, while Jack and I syphoned it out of the other, then we'd swap sides and do it again!....fkkn madness!

The airport guvnor found out and went fkkn mad, tracked me down and I had to go and face the music with the airport boss!

It was unbelievable performance!...not so much top speed, I wouldn't have wanted to hang it on it's ear and try to ring the last bit out of it, but the sheer accelaration from about 40 was shocking!..like a fkkn firework!

How those ski race loonies hang on I really don't know. (maybe Manos could explain)

Ye he's a real face on the ski racing scene.

There used to be a twin rig 21 @ my ski club. I'm sure it was 260's but those fellas used to be Xr2 nut-nuts so i may be wrong.

I thought there R20 was the fastest thing ever, the they got that twin which was awesome!

Of course they then got an 8.0L i/b Bernico which @ a claimed 950+hp was plaine outrageous! They wre politely asked to leave the club due to noise pollution!

the 21 bernico "Tranquilizer" they have now only has a tuned 225HO. but its still Fck fast!

Just found this old thread,
Marina Boats Were from Ron Wolbold From the midlands. Noted Hydro Builder which were his love The Old man & I had a few of his offshore boats, but they were always slightly too light for real offshore work in the eaarly days, but then beeefed them up with the later ones & were OK, Dunno if he's still around.

Ron Wolbold

Unfortunately Ron has now passed away. He suffered with ill health for quite a long time but still was heavily involved with his last pet project Miss Windermere VI http://www.speedrecordclub.com/projects/noone.htm
Boat Racing lost a true genius.

Such a shame what a lovley bloke, guess we both had the same sense of humor, used to make me laugh when he was having a bad day with his knees walked & wobbled at the same time.
As a sideline he used to turn out NAT west Bank Signs when he had the place in Halesowen, always drove the Sauberu, good job there we no speed cameras then.
