it is meant to be dropped at the end of this year, but think our Govt are fighting it and the decision has yet to be in Euro parliment... even if they dont renew it there's no way it can be put in force for ages...

Talking of legislations:
The UK was ordered by the EU to change all its road and speed signs to show Kilometers for distance and KPH for speed limits. (For the benefit of the three "Cheesemunchin - Surrendermonkies" that visit our shores each year)!
I believe that the British Government were given 5 years to comply or face stiff penalties by way of fines.
I think i heard that three years ago, so they have only two years left to comply.
Anyone heard or know anything more on this further stab at removing the culture & identity of the English people?

There was an article in MBY a couple of months ago with a test/thrash round IOW using a hydrolift with a 6.2(?) petrol and a rib with a 315hp yanmar, the performance was almost identical and so was the fuel consumption. So if we lose red diesel looks like petrol may be cheaper - assuming you go everywhere at WOT!

I cant believe same fuel consumption is correct
Would guess comparing the 4litre 315hp yanamr to a say similar performance 360hp petrol 6.2litre V8, the diesel would be 25-40% more efficient and then you have reliabilty and longlivety (spelling?)
when we got our first yanmar 315 in the 26 extreme it was approx 7-8 times cheaper to run than our old 23ft rinker with a old carb 454 mag

How fast (really) did the Rinker 23 go with the 454mag?
I think with the petrol/diesel test, the key word is consumption rather than cost. But I agree, even basing it on volume used, disregarding cost, a Yanmar 315 will use circa 15 galls/hour at WOT, can't believe a 6.2 mercruiser is the same at WOT, more like 25 galls/hour.

I was surprised too but that's what it said!
I'll see if I can find it and check, but I'm pretty certain.
I'm not sure what the yanmar engine is like in terms electronic injection etc, but the wifes BM 320d is not all that good on fuel if it's thrashed - nurse it along and it's almost like it's making juice rather than burning it, but get the turbo turning and it starts to suffer.

the rinker did about 58-63mph so similar to extreme with yanmar
another thing to add, is it wise to run you engines at WOT for long periods??
in normal use you would be cruising say in above boats at 3/4 speed, so thats where u should measure fuel consumption
