Yes, you of all people should know about setup and prop work, with probably 2 grand in the trophy you run, Im sure you'd loose 5mph if you changed back to a stock trophy!

My P23 hits the limiter at 76mph on a 24" prop, and hits the limiter @ 69mph with a 26" yam drag prop, Can you guess which one is worked?

Back on topic, When I spoke with the Evinrude dealer at Southampton boat show a couple of years ago, I asked about the 200HO & how it would compare to the 200XS his response was, The 200XS would be slightly faster but the 200HO would use slightly less fuel.

Not sure about what the RRP of each motor is but I've heard that a couple of people get very good deals off Evinrude dealers for new engines.

Aren't the saddles a bit of a weak point on the evinrudes?

Could be wrong but thought I remember reading about a few failures? Having said that, not sure if they are any worse than others.

Yeah on the bigger ones in racing and take a beating but from the stand point I was coming from for pleasure use I like them. The p1 boys may be able to show a bit more light on it. The ones I have used at work have 2500-3000 hours on the powerheads with out re build.

We rack up those hours in 18 months. Obviously you can get injector problems like anything. But if one goes down the engine can still run safely.

Paul's does go well tho, i'll give him that!
The other thing is, I cannot remember Paul complaining that his engine has shit itself.

The saddle broke on my 200, and the stock mounts are shite, but that was all sorted out with some good old fashioned engineering and some CNC solid mounts from the USA. The power head has been faultless, never needed anything other than new plugs at 3 years old.

that particular motor was a dog from day one,and he's got a lot of set up still to do.
I must admit that the one I had was a problem from day one. £4k of repairs (not set up) later the motor works Fine!!!!!!!!! At no time did the alarms go off and yet it ate impellers. If you buy a race motor you expect to set it at a level of a race motor, and before anyone says it was too high, at this stage it was not even planed so was well submerged! It was set at the same height as an older mercury with the same leg and no low water pick which was on the transom. Mine is set on a bobs machine 8 inches back and has a low water pick up!!!!!. Now have yet another prop to test, but admit not impressed with manufacturer support given it was a new motor. Andy Mac, in the interests of whooping, happy to tow anytime!

so true !!!

All of the above proves it is very hard to have a objective comparison between those 150hp engines. I'd love to see dyno'd engines run against each other, and even then we'll be discussing about no 2 hulls, no 2 props, no 2 drivers are the same,...
There are a lot of feelings, opinions and experiences out there as it should be off course. There is also always a commercial interest that lurks around the corner, that's how the world works.
Don't forget 150 horses are simply 150 horses, so what you are really after is how these horses (and torques) are delivered throughout the rpm range and what's most efficient in racing.

Unless you have money enough, one would choose the engine you can get the best deal on from the dealer you trust the most and make it run as good as possible for ya.

Having seen the Merc 150 ProXS and Rude 150HO run in F3 waterski racing it's my feel the Merc and Rude come close to eachother. As I said earlier in this thread, I'd prefer the Rude, but bottomline is you can't go wrong with either of those 2. As I never saw it run I don't have a 'own' opinion on the Yam 150, even though I run a Yam 200 on my P21 and I simply love it...
