mercury xr2 help

i have come across a 240 or are they a 250 mercury xr2 engine. i am not a mechanic and onlt no little bit . he thing is it revs out good when not in gear soon as its under load it only revs out a little bit.has anyone got any ideas ?
i had this proplem on my last engine and it was the advance timing bob or idle i think its called any help would be good

the later ones using a sleeved down 2.5 block were 200hp you won't get much more power than that unless you start heavely modding the internals

Not sure where you got your information from but it's wrong or at least outdated, it was the very early ones that were lower HP and the later ones are all 200hp (almost!)
