My New 23' Lorne campbell cat.

Hi Today i had a go in my new toy..one word..Scary!

Want to find out more info on set up and past history please?

Its running a 25Pitch laser 2 think it needs a chopper for lift, any ideas?
I have loads to try in time like 24,26 Yam overhubs and Merc choppers,23 High five.

Basic Specs

*Previous owner Adrian Bagnell
*Nav martin coker
*Designed by Lorne campbell
*Bulit by Gordon wright
*A & R Racing
*Named Nemesis
*C81 Class 3 offshore 2 litre
*think hull is 1989?
*LOA 23ft
*Beam 7'6"
*Weight Not a lot? (actually tows behind the car lighter than my OCR boat!! That is 525K and the cat has about 175 Litres of fuel in it!)
*Construction Marine Ply on Beach
*Approx 1990 XR2 With CLE box
*Engine lifter
*Approx 80 Gallon bow ballast tank
*Approx 200 Litre Fuel tank!

A Cat is a totally new thing to me and today was my first drive. At 10MPH i turned sharply and it felt like it was gonna tip over!
At higher speeds it did turn better but i am unsure of how i should trim XR2 and what ride height to use.

Any Advice or history would be greatly appreciated as i took her up to 65MPH today at about 5800RPM with 9PSI fuel pressure Neutral trim with lifter about half way....and it had plenty to come

Loads of pictures of her on this site "Readers Rides"

All i know of this amazing machine is what is here so any information will be greatly appreciated as i have fallen in love with this vessel and i am gonna race it well

speak to "pash" from my conversation with him last year he has gone thru a similar learning curve, from 21 mono to scary twin hull but from looking at his posts it seems well worth it! enjoy

Bought it from Guy in Portsmouth Yesterday. he had it about 10 months but his wife not like!

I see on your "sold" boats you have my old Ring "another one" When i bought it she had twin 2.4EFI bridgeports hence the name. I blew one engine and had the cossie lurking so married them up both being heavy old lumps.

Bet yours goes well in 20ft!!! Scary Fast? What speed/Props/revs/Fuel pressure/weight does yours have. I plan to basic race the cat this year so Maybe we could have a Twin Hull Twinning!

I had input from Lorne on all the wooden cats built up to 93, so hopefully nothing is missing!

On another point, cats are bad round corners, but in the rough, in a straight line they are just like sitting in your favourite armchair at home!

Enjoy not getting battered and bruised this year!

Great website. So it must be 1989 22' (6.71m) Possibly "cowards Way" "Carryfast 1" Tony Jervey, As she carries the Same C81 Race #?

Why is it "Sadly" That you worked on her or are you being sarky!

Today i had her in a following sea and i have never experienced a ride like it! I can't wait to get her all set up and flyin...literally!

Thanks for the info

Stu

"Sadly"

"Sadly" is because we are talking about boats that were designed and built over 20 years ago!

Aghh Although the condition of my Cat really is amazing My Dad (A Chippy) And myself have spent several hours with lead lights poking around inside the sponsons and there is absolutely NO damage or rot anywhere! Even spiders webs...Spiders only like the dry.

The main beams are fibreglassed over i guess to stop water ingress, she has 5 Flush fitting drain bungs with o-ring seals and Vaselene!

Are there any weak or common points to look out for?

I was told Bagnell Raced the smaller cat for several years then had the Present boat built..Sadly shortly after he damaged his back in a lorry accident!

I got the impression The guy i bought it from bought it from Bagnall which means it has been dry stored for the past 18 or so years!!

Seems a shame i gonna wreck it racing but that was what it was made for.

Regards a Ride in the boat..I will keep your no. but i am In Devon!

Pics on the water to follow tomorrow

Cheers

Should this be stickied to Tech Section?

Just been speaking to dave "Seacat Marine" Known him for 15 years and never knew why he called Seacat!!

He knows everything about These Tree Racers!

Mine has no "Blocker" so will only corner with surface piercing props.
