Need Advice on Phantom 18/19 Speed Boat
Hi I am new to the whole power boat thing. I have been helping my father on his 30ft cat for the last few years and decided I wanted to go a bit faster. I am currently looking at two Phantoms
My Dilema is One of the Phantoms is in better condition than the other and cheaper but only has a 90 on the back whereas the more expensive one has a 150hp (that hasn't been serviced this season). Basically how much difference will there be between a 90 and 150? If anyone has one for sale below £3,000 please let me know
Also I am looking for somewhere to store it as was looking at the marina but if i can store it cheaper elsewhere including launching fees it would be preferable (then I wouldn't have to antifoul it)
Thanks

It was my old boat, i bought it from blackpool a couple of years ago, the guy who owns it now lives in barrow and i think he wants around 31/2 k for it.

The hull was in excellent condition due to a heavy lay up, engine started first turn after not being run for nearly a year, interior was brand new when i sold it, dont think new owners used it much.

Cool, how much is that to launch? and does he do monthly prices?
Also any ideas on which one to go for as there is only a £500 difference (reason as thinking that the 150 hp could do with cleats and respray)

It might help if you tell us what engines are fitted.

90 Merc
Steer well clear of that, it's an old donkey of an engine!
Mate of mine had one, it broke down, the cost of a trigger & stator was more than he could get for the engine if it was working!!!!
An 18 footer needs at least 150, IMHO.

Ditto, the best 90 is a Yammie. The 90 Tohatsu is a 2nd choice but you won't find many of those.

My thoughts would be a 90 is plenty for you key point is "I am new to the whole power boat thing" always get a bigger motor as you get used to the game, But the merc is an old design that has seen better days. about a 115-120 would be about right. get the better hull & use the merc as an anchor, now there's a thought ?
