New Member from Malta

Hi Guys,
I'm a new member from Malta. I'm also a boat enthusiastic particularly interested in fast boats . Ironically, my humble boat is very slow and old.. just 130hp of diesel power but i will be changing it in the near future to a fast boat. In Malta boating and yachting is a favourite hobby so we have quite a good number of beautiful boats down there. Fast boats are also popular. Most of them are produced by a local company which is taking part for the second time in the P1 championship however we lack fast US boats. There are only two cigarettes and quite old but at least its better than nothing. I must say that you have a very informative and interesting blog. Keep it up! If you need any information about any boat which is or has been in Malta i would be grateful to help you out!

did you purchase your boat from malta? I know a Maltese boat builder who builds exactly that model. Maybe you have heard of this company. It is called Chaudron. Few years ago most of the smaller boats in their range used the label of 'phantom' but now all the boats are labeled under the name of chaudron. The chaudron 28 is quite common in Malta. Normally they power them with twin 200/225 outboards. There's even one powered with a Lambourghini.

Yes, I have heard of them, though I thought they built mainly Shower trays, gas bottle enclosures and garden Gnome's.

I think I'd better go to bed now

Welcom Franco.
EVERYBODY here has heard about the Malta boat builder and has been a heated topic of debate on many occasions. Best not to comment on it really just search and read, bring yourself up to speed. If you then wish to climb into the lions den feel free. But do expect incoming on that issue But helpful, hits, tips, stories & humor on everything else, Enjoy the site

ok i got the point. I would say that it was a common occourance in Malta. A clear example is my coronet 21. Infact at the time when they were popular there was more than one builder building this splased version in Malta. Their quality was quite inferior when you compareed it with an authentic version however my coronet is 18 yrs old and is still running fine. The production of this boat has stopped now, presumably because the Danish company who has the rights to the original mould reacted to this. Gobbi models were also extensively copied at that time.

It is that the Malta builder you mention committed theft to produce his boats. Aparently it is fine for someone *in* england to be a thief in the boating world, but not if you are non-English. -

Aparently.

A load of good advice, some real nice people, but avoid the discussion of design theft.....

Mark, what are the grounds for that comment?

I've always maintained a staunch anti splashing stance, regardless of nationality.

I bet you have to pack up now in order to attend to the Malta Boat Show which has started yesterday and will finish on Sunday. You won't miss any specialities but if you attend, at least you get an idea of how small our boat industry is in Malta. Could also be interesting because there are a few local producers building good quality authentic boats. As regards to other events, there will be no boating events next week. Actually there are no offical events for motor boats in Malta except for the P1 powerboat championship which is being held in on the 13th and 14th of May. We have a yacht club but I think that will also not help much because it only appeals mostly to sailing boat owners with exception very few motor yacht owners. If you want to take a look on the site, then just follow this link :
