New "Round British Isles" record
At 04:45 this morning, Seahound 5 crossed the finishing line (Bournemouth Pier) to break the ROUND BRITISH ISLES (aka round Britain and Ireland) record by approximately 35 hours.
Congratulations to Seahound's crew, Chris Strickland, John Puddifoot, Gordon Compton and Jan Falkowski, all are members of BIBOA (The British Inflatable Boat Owners Association).
The record has been held by Alan Priddy since 2000 and was broken by John Aldiss earlier this Year in his RIB "Titan".
Seahound 5 is a 10m Scorpion sportcruiser powered by 2x Yanmar 300hp diesel engines with Bravo 1 outdrives. The official distance of the record is 1787 nautical miles, although it's likely that the actual distance covered will be greater once fuel stop deviations and navigational alowances are added.
Initial timings (to be confirmed) indicate that their new record is approximately 73 hours.

Actual distance will be also be longer due to the uppy and downyness of the waves when compared to a flat sea (see attached diagram)!!!

Agreed. He puts an awful lot into BIBOA and is a thoroughly nice guy. Although he does have a dark powerboat secret - he owns a narrowboat! (I know, I've slept on it!)
