I'll be there visiting the girlfriends family next March (4th - 24th), they live near Auckland, but we plan on going to the South Island as well - anyone got any recommendations etc?

Queenstown, if you can't find excitement there, your probably dead.

Jet boating would have to be top of the list, perhaps bungee jumping, but deffo a trip to Doubtful Sound.

A second vote for Queenstown. The Shotover jet is a must...

Now that's a generous offer! Especially as you don't know Cookee!

First thing I'd do, is cut the intercoms power.

you don't understand jon, i have split throttle and steering, he would just have to point it, i've got control of the juice sticks, imagine the publicity i would get with having a british champion running, just ask the honda guys who have been out here twice

Well I certainly will have a hard time turning that one down! Better get my dunk test done for then - do you have your calendar dates for that period yet? I'm sure it would be good for our PR as well - I don't have to renew my license until I get back so I shouldn't need permission!

I have already pencilled in a trip to Queenstown and the Shotover jet unless something else better comes up (I think this qualifies!!!!)

Apparently uim rules mean you need a clearance from your association, yes, you will need to do a dunk test.
The race that is on when you are here is at Wellington on 15/03/08.
I live in Auckland so we could maybe do a practise run before then.

Cookie, licences run from 31/12. So you will need to renew and also get a overseas racing approval letter or your rya insurace wont be valid. Plus there may be a problem regarding you racing 6ltr. Sorry to be so negative, hope you can work it all out.

Cookeeeee is now a record holder, and held in high regard by the RYA. Also the RYA is warm and touchy feely these days... almost cuddly - like a sheep.

I have little doubt you will get a licence from the RYA for this. They will charge you the International Class 3 Six litre licence fee, and produce the UIM letter required by the NZ crew. Then Dunk test away and off you go to do the biz.

We call our class Superboat Lite, now loosely based on 6 litre but as I run 300x's the boat dosen't fit into the uim class, so just your rya license will be sufficient, you will be covered under our insurance, i can organise a day license from the nzopa!

I already have a P1 license, although it's not the same it's a bit more powerful!

Looks like I'm going to have to get my license a bit early this year then! The only problem I can see with that is getting the forms out of the RYA - they're moving offices again!

I'm really looking forward to this trip even more now!

Right then what can I do in Australia? ...................
