Interesting to compare the difference in hull design fifteen years can make, Had a test run in a Velocity 36 with standard twin MerCruiser 496 MAG’s (375hp) at the Miami Boat show with DGS and it clocked 84mph on the sat speedo after only about a mile run. The driver said it would have topped 86 if we had a longer run. That was with four up. Very impressive.

I thought the "operating position" was smart.

Hey Gordon, that does sound a bit odd, why build 1-2 Monza boats, then sell the moulds and then build persumably an identical set for the 34 rib it does seem a strong bet as JF said the 34 rib was based on it....must admit that 34 we went out on did ride the chop and swell rather well that day

Also, the old 454 365s were actually 350shp. The 496 Mag HOs are 425shp.

The Monza ran 74 on the speedo according to the test report so who knows what speed it really did.

Comparing apples with apples, the old 31 Scarab ran about 65 with the 454 mags.

That reminds me of a story long a ago in a place far away I took a corvette in for a few odds and ends to a company that had been involved in building drag race engines, the guy told me he was pi#~~~d off with mercury as he had worked on a 454 that he was told had 365hp with the new heads and cam he said around 50-70 hp more would be expected, but it only dyno at 370hp when he told customer, they said ok dont want it to much money for 5hp, so the engine was placed back as original then dyno, and the engine only made 315hp????? what did mercury do with the other 50hp...........(I am sure things are different today though)

A possible explanation - might have been that the engine was the 2 bolt main 454 330bhp (300shp) merc.

I have already looked at that one. It has an Alpha 1 drive which has already "blown" once as they tended to do if you pushed too much HP through them and the engine had dropped a valve and is also 18 yrs old (he has fitted a Holley carb and high lift cam!) so although the boat is at a fair price it really needs a new engine, preferably a 350 MAG MPI, and a Bravo One drive then you might be getting somewhere but the cost!!!

Just got back of hols and done some catching up on this forum.
my 27 foot revenger san marino is being bought back to life with a couple of 225 optis which came of the Marex boat ( can i say that word on here ) by Chris Lewis. Getting the Hull and interior repaired aswell so hopefully should look like new. If all goes well will enter her in the Blade Run event. Has anyone else entered Blade Run? Will be doing testing at Poole and solent Next weekend.

I for one would be very interested if you posted some pics of her up and running next week. They were good looking boats.
