That little Cougar is a "classic"!

During Guernsey Powerboat Week 1986, Cougar brought over 8 of the things. We set teams up of 5 drivers.

Each driver had one lap to race of the Queen Elizabeth II Marina - so 40 races in all.

The Marina was just nearing being finished, but had no pontoons, so was a perfect inshore race course!

I remember Nik Keyser and I were on the same team, and we won our heats, I also remember someone on here that posts every so often taking a bath!

All the little Cougars have been saved from barn storage, they have engines ranging from 15hp Mariners to one with a forty on.
The Victory cat is still around and hopefully this season we hope to arrange a poker run with all of them to one of our neighbouring islands or possibly do a couple of laps before one of our local races as entertainment, will have to speak to Jacq on that one.

one of my mates has 2 or 3 of them, 2 of them are out regually. 55mph in one of them can produce brown trouser moments!

Maybe we should save our money racing our Phantoms and bigger rigs and race the mini cats instead

Would be great if you could get a few of them out again.

I would love to race against you in a Cougar Cub 24 years later and still prove Guernsey racers are all talk!

That might be true of some of these newer generation boys but I am an original racing throwback from your era, still got the scars and doctors bills to prove it.

It would be great if Jacq could sort out a cheap Condor deal so that a crowd from your calm racing club could come over one weekend-gauntlet down

Ahh yes I remember that week very well indeed. Peter Dredge and I took over a trailer from Cougar with six of them on the back. We were asked by the Captain of the ferry to sober up and quieten down or he would drop us off in Jersey on the way out.
We used Robbie Hood's new Iveco Van as a tow truck as Pecky had borrowed the Cougar Rangey to take his 2 litre boat to the Worlds in Italy or somewhere.
We logoed up the van with some lurid slogans that involved dripping beavers ...
The week really amounted to whom could drink the most Grolsch and still drive a small cat. We even put one of the boats in the Beau Sejour swimming pool for the party that ended up with everyone being thrown in, including Terry Herring !
Those were good days, must have been September 1986 I guess ?

I guess that'll be the closest he's ever been to actually 'boating' then.

Yep - We all went in!

Bloody good night, can't remember Herring as I had a wet & sexy 18 year old to take back to La Collinette and warm up.

I'm sure it was that year that I took my son over for the races, he was 19 at the time, and I left the party with him before things “got out of hand” you could see where it was all going and I didn't want him to see what normally went on for fear he would tell his Mother! However, somehow we met up with several girls from the UK and at midnight drove out to the western side of the Island, everyone was well tanked by then and the girls dared us to join them skinny dipping. So we did and bloody cold it was too. "Things" go rather small in the cold!! I remember seeing the beach the next morning with the tide out and there were HUGE rocks everywhere. How no one was hurt as we ran full tilt into the sea in the dark I have no idea. At the time I made him swear to never tell his mother. My son still talks about that night, but he never took up powerboat racing, I can’t imagine why?
