Old Red Flying Flipper 30' 1987

Has anyone any idea where this boat is sitting right now?

30ft Flying Flipper in RED, once owned by John Baker (Flippin ‘Eck) and then Alan Webb (Shithawk) and raced offshore during 1987 to 1992.

Yes, I know of that one, that was the 2nd Flippin 'Eck that JB purchased from Flipper in Finland and we rigged it as a Class 11 boat with twin Johnsons V8 300hp outboards. Was never able to use their full power! It eventually took part in the RB2008 race and then was sold to Finland. It's the first Cruiser racer version I am interested in.

Hi. I have 1987 Flying Flipper in my carage in Finland. It was originally red and nowdays it is painted in yellow. First owner of that boat was Siqurd Isacsson. Boat came from Sweden to Finland about 10years ago

Do you know if it came from England, was there a name on the side when you purchased it?

When the boat came to me, it was already yellow, without any text. Maybe I can call again to Flipper previous CEO/Owner, maybe he knows the story of my boat. He already told me, that this boat was made to Sigurd, who was the designer of Flying Flipper

Dont know if this will help, but my father bought the one that got painted yellow from a guy in Stockholm in 1995. At the time it was original red and propelled by 2x Johnson 225. Im pretty sure that it never went to England but I might be wrong. He sold the boat in 1997 to a friend of a friend in Stockholm.

Hi,

Mine Flying Flipper is number 45 and like I already told, it is also painted yellow, don't know who or when. Flipper made only two red ones in year -87.

re Red Flipper

What is really interesting is that the new owners are showing their new Flying Flipper with twin 400's on the back. As we found out in 1988 when we fitted twin 300hp V8 Johnsons on the back, that the maximum designed speed of the hull of the Flying Flipper was around 75mph, 80mph absolute max. Above that it was like running on a skate (according to Steve Hutchinson who raced a Flipper in the RB08). He managed to get it to 83mph but it was getting VERY dangerous at that stage! So the question is, what have the new owners of the FF done to be able to run twin 400hp Merc outboards which would get it up to 90mph+? Just asking as I am interested as I love the Flipper, it is superb in heavy seas.

I'm no expert on Diesels Paul but the rule of thumb is to increase the pitch/size of your props until the revs max out at the engine manufacturers recommended limits, or as near as possible .Trial and error really.

Hi Mike well then that would tell me new props needed because at 3800rpm is the max recommend from Volvo but I could go up into the low mid 4s am sure as there’s lots left have you any idea how many knots she would do with 380bhp as the Volvo d6 would fit in perfectly and is only 180kgs heavier many thanks paul
