Outboard Leg Length?

Can anyone tell me what would be the ideal length of outboard to fit on to a Ring 18? Had a chance of a Merc 200hp with xl shaft and someone told me that the XL leg was to long to fit to my boat. Very confused now.

Please Help

Yeah Xl leg is not suitable for your boat size , you should try 15 .Can you please upload the picture so that we may guide you in better way .
