Over revving.

Hi all, i have a phantom 20 with a mercury xr2 200hp. The problem i had today was, as i was leaving Brixham harbour and started to give it some throttle, the engine was over revving quite alot and the boat was not getting onto the plane, basicly the bow was skywards. If anybody has any ideas on what the problem may be i would be very greatful for any suggestions you may have.

P.S im running a Lazer 2, 21p prop.

sounds like cavitation, did you slowly build up the revs to get on the plane or did you boot it?

has this just started or is it an on-going problem..as stated above trim in..check prop bush..then if you still have problems ide drop the motor a hole.

edit..you did'nt have 3 mates all sitting on the rear seat did ya

Thanks for all your replies folks.
scooby hugh. i didnt try and boot it straight away, but when i started hittin 6500rpm and still not gettin anywhere was when i realised there might be a problem. i did try trimming it more but to no effect.

Rhino, i will try what you suggested and take it from there.

Thanks again for your time everyone.
