P18 vs. P19

What motors were these hulls designed for? I'm looking for something to race in my local 1.3L class and figured these would be a safe bet (if they weren't too big). There's a P16 available as well but it needs some major work and if these will give it a good run in terms of speed/offshore capability I wouldn't mind having the ability to upgrade motors at a later date. I can also race in a stock 150hp class (where most guys run 150 high output Evinrudes) which I'm thinking these hulls would run better with... And am I right in thinking the P19 was an upgrade to the P18 - designed to be slightly faster when run with the same engines?

The P18XL, or P19 as you're calling it is actually 20' long. It was a development of/on, the P18 with all the testing & feedback to Steve coming from Nick Barsch. The idea was I believe, a similar, or slightly improved top speed for a given hp, with the extra 2' helping when it chops up.

I think they do around 70 with the rude 150 HO (The XL that is)

yes correct, this was when OCR used the 2.0l merc XR2. not sure what a P18 or 19 wouldrun like in 1.3. the 16/90hp combo was and still is in my mind one of the best outfits you can buy pound for pound. a guy did use d to run an 18 with a 90 johnson. in a basic series but it was not as fast as a 16 with a 90 yam.#having said that, if you are doing long legs and offshore courses the longer boat would be favourable in bigger sea, IMHO.

Many moons back, I believe Alan Layton ran a P18 in 1.3 offshore.

At UKFFORC we have an E1500 class of which approx half of these run Phantom hulls (the P19XL). The engine is an evinrude 150hp HO and with everyone having the same engine we have very competitive racing. Top speeds are indeed around the 70mph mark. I have raced in a few 3B Boats using a Yamaha 90. (Back in the day)

Crusader 19' - Top Speed 49 MPH

Phantom 16' - Top Speed 57 MPH

Stapley Cat 17' - Top Speed 56 MPH

Forgecraft 17' - Top Speed 56 MPH

Argo Cat 17' - Top Speed 81.3 MPH

Argo Cat 18' - Top Speed 76 MPH

Thats quite a respectable speed in that Forgecraft, for a metal job anyway.

Always rather liked them, particularly the later ones. very cool.
