pad bottom p28

hi all was there ever a phantom built with a pad bottom
what are your views on a pad on this style of boat

No. The P28's were all the same (at least all the real ones are), straight vee bottom, with only a tiny difference in the transom between the inboard and outboard versions.

All the later Phantoms, from the 20 onwards (about '86) had a 'Phantom pad', that was basically an area of reduced deadrise between the centre spray rails, that morphs progressively from the forefoot (pointed end) to the transom (blunt end). So the 20, mk III 21, 23 and XL all have this feature, as does the Phantom EVO rib.

I guess the same as stepped bottom boats of this size, and regular vee bottom boats of this size, some are good, some are not.

Just adding a pad to a design won't necessarily work, it needs some know-how, and maybe some luck.
