whats the best stuff to use on gel coat? t-cut bought the argo up nice but the sorcerer's a bit far gone, ive washed all the green slime off and its very pale, the only stickers that have survived is gav's sequel moldings ones

If the oxidization is very bad, you can't beat a bit of 3M 1200 Wet & Dry with soapy water prior to mopping. (using rubber sanding block or similar) I find that 1200 leaves a pretty good surface and only T cut is required after (using mop) followed by a good soapy wash, and some Simoniz Original Wax and elbow grease.

Don'ts!

..be VERY careful when doing any areas that are not flat, you can 'go through' very easily indeed on a corner or ridge.

Don't be tempted to take too much off, you only need remove the very top layer of gel that's oxidised, exposing the fresh gel below for polishing.

I've always found that if the gel is very faded, just mopping, or polishing, looks great for a few weeks, but the dullness soon returns. You need to get rid of that damaged top surface, then the lustre will last.
You'll also lose any orange peel finish, or print through, which you won't with just a mop. (but be carefull)

As Jon says be very careful around your edges and also near any stickers.
If your top deck is in good condition but just matt you can just use 2500 wet and dry with plenty soapy water (not fairy liquid as this contains salts) from most Autopaint outlets.
(1200 only to take out small scratches then 2500)

And again as Jon says the fading may come back because of the UV and some pigment s in the gel coat.
To slow this process buy a full cover with soft inside to keep the sun off your toy thus reducing your exposure.

My old Phantom still takes a good shine and its 21 years old a credit to the owners before me.( Burty and co)

G3 works well with a mop. Afterwards give it a good wash with some wash and wax. I use a tin of Blakes Carnabau Wax to finish with. This is really easy on application and gives a good lasting protective finish. The salt water will just bead off. Carefull on coloured screens etc as you usually find it is a thinner gelcoat.
