Jon,can you give us any more snippets, this is big news.....How long to find her? Where did you find her, Is she complete? Is the engine in her the one as in the pic i posted? Drive? etc etc etc. IMHO One of best class II boats built and raced......it would still win today.
|
Sorry Brian, but TD is right.
The Class II animal changed imeasurably between '82, and '95.
A 31' 80mph mono was highly competitive back then, but by the mid 90's, it would have had a 36' 107mph 'Buzzi Buzzard' to contend with in the rough, and the 32' 126mph Buzzi trimaran 'TRM95' to contend with in the flat.
Either way, No contest me thinks.
It'll make a very nice and capable pleasure boat, and could well fit nicely (and competitively) into one, or two RB class's, but I reckon that's about it.

"Since imported special order in White bodywork. owned by a man called
Eric Barfield for some years then My Father purchased it from a man
called Alan leason in 83 with 5000 miles on the clock."
Would that be the same Alan Leason that I bought the 25 Phantom "Faberge Turbo" from in 86 ?

No! 3 years ago simon got a young lad to polish the rest of the hull!i think he gave up as theres no light or room! I dont recall him doing any paint! simon had a 15 feet garden and when he first got the boat he removed the fence panels and filled the whole garden plus the other 16 foot of the boat stuck out on the pavement and side of house!
The neighbours got for 3 to 4 years.

Tony, is this the Alan we met at the Miami Marriott a few years back, who wanted to produce boats out there from your tooling?

I dont
summer 94 i purchased a Fletcher 199 Bravo with a merc 150 with my brother, then that went pop and and my bro went to pacer marine and got riped off with a merc efi 200 which blow up second trip out! then there was near fight and court action with them for 2 years! I got Chris Lewis to examine the motor which he reported it to be a mess way before pacer had it up for sale!
In the end i got hold of barras how ever spelt! told them how bad pacer are and then got a new mariner 2.5 carb 200 for her! Had 5 years of fun untill i got run over by a car in 2000 4 years later i wouldnt to get the fletcher back oout but my body wasnt strong enough and gave my half to my bro!
The boats called Bagzeethat! have you seen it out on the solent or at race events!
But now i want to be back on the water again!
My wife and i are looking for a jetski but would love a 199 again.

As you know Jon, the rules for RB3 gives you twin small blocks for that boat (giving possibly 200hp more than when it ran in '82) which could effectively wipe everyone else out in that class by the way it runs in that film! Interesting thought. I should imagine everyone who has seen this film and is taking part in RB3 is wincing with horror at the thought that you might just take part. ML.

There's no doubt, that with a pair of staggered 450hp small blocks, the deacons, pussyfoots etc of this world, will have a race on their hands..and if there's one thing I'd like to see, it's them, no where near a podium!....However, it's a costly option, not least the fuel, which as I've previously said, I reckon to be upwards of £15k for that kinda petrol power, so there's also a much more sensible option, of a single 480-500hp diesel, running in RB4, speed would probably only low 60s at best, but from an average speed point of view, in the conditions one is bound to encounter over that route/mileage/time span, it would be I think, very competitive, reliable, cheap to run, and wouldn't have to carry much fuel (read 'weight') and probably under £4k in fuel.

Hi Jon, I'm sticking to me guns.... TD was only partly right!! I was talking circ 1980s when i stated i viewed her as one of the best (something i still maintain) You are of course correct in saying it wouldn't have been competitive against the likes of Buzzard/TRM95/etc. However Buzzard had bits of old rubber round it, and TRM needed three hulls......their not for me thankyou. Warlord has the credentials:- It looks like a Race Boat, It sounded like a Race Boat and it went like a Race boat..........but heh what do i know, guess i'm just an old romantic living in the past!!!!!!!!!! It would be nice to see her running again though, who knows she might even.........!!

Hi Jon
I was watching the vid and thought that she was running a little bow heavy during that race and looked pretty close to stuffing on a few occasions.
Do you know if this was just the conditions or did she have any ballast in the bow?
Cheers

I'd put money on it that the bow tank was full, and I don't blame them.

Not at all, If I can find a suitable 'silver spoon' merchant like yourself to fund the considerable cost of such an entry, we'll be there like a shot!
So how about it, you, or one of your wealthy chums sponsor us, and there'll be no 'Gaying out' from Team Warlord!
