Thats what I recall at the time, the replacement had a lower HP than the first engine & hence the tail off in the performance from it's first apperances

It only did 3 races!
It won in Brighton, and in Poole at the needles trophy, but had valvetrain failure in the Cowes race a week later and retired as a DNF.

Never saw another start after that, so I presume the second motor was only used for testing, or, they bought it, but it never found it's way into the boat, as the one I have, is I believe the original. When Simon bought it from Alan Baldwin, it had the port side cylinder head removed (motor still in the boat, I have photos taken of it by Simon in this state)
It looks like they took the head off following the Cowes failure, and it never ran again. One of the Baldwins had a car accident shortly after that Cowes race, which put him out of action for over a year and that was the end of 'Warlords' racing career. They then went on to race Bentleys. 'Warlord' sat in Alans Garden for ten years, then Simon bought it, and has stored it ever since.

Simon has given me some pics he took (including the one of the motor with the head removed) of it sitting in Alans garden, looking very sorry for itself, this was I believe in '92 when he bought it. All the tyres sunk into the lawn, and flat, with algi growing on it in places, vary sad.

Regarding this story I start to believe there´s no second engine and this one indeed is the original. Pulling a rocker stud ain´t that big a deal to fix but if a lifter pops out of the lifter valley you lose all the oilpressure.
Usually it means total damage for a boatengine as you don´t notice it in time.

Warlord races

Look in the website records and Cowes 83 indicates a race, plus 2 races at Poole in 82, so thats 6 races logged that we know of.Perhaps you have not had time to look at the race records, what with all the video conversions you are doing.Another hint old fruit.

Morning Graham, hint taken.

OK, I can't find an entry for Warlord @ Great Yarmouth, in either '82, or '83.

Hadn't previously seen the '83 Cowes result (DNF) and had seen, but clearly forgot about the double races at Poole in '82.

So, it looks like 5 races, with possibly Cowes of '83 being with the replacement motor??

I'm still pretty sure that the motor I have (Which was still installed in the boat when Simon bought it) is the original, so who knows.

Warlord races

The Great Yarmouth race I know I have not logged as raced ,but have relied on `Blu Fin` info as referenced in thread. So Mr.Blu Fin ,how about using all your untapped knowledge to update the race records. That would give you an even bigger headache than Johnboy has working on his video transfer. That`s the summer of 2007 taken care of.

Seem to recall it being craned out thats all, i was in the IIID rig so that would make it 82. There was a previous pic in another thread of it being lifted on to the trailer, Which looked like the Harbour side at Gt Yarmouth thats all

"O"rible fast flowing river that made a bitch of getting into the strops. Could be wrong or just off by a venue. If I still had a working number for Alan I'd ask him

You're not wrong about the tide rip there. Many a Norfolk Broad boat has come a cropper.
I remember Nick Shipway backing Miss Behaviour off its trailer after being craned and bending prop on back of said trailer. Ian had to quickly straighten it before the race.
I also think '82 was the year that the Marenghi bros managed to put the 3 pointer over backwards just off the pier and Romans Sabre blew an engine on its way to the start. Did the race on one engine. Still won I think.

Are you sure the 2 pics are Poole Quay. I don't remember a church behind what would be Sunseeker now. Also the sheds don't look right for what was at Poole back then. I could be wrong though, and it wouldn't be first time and definitely not the last!!!!!

It's a long time ago, and I could be wrong, and I did go to Great Yarmouth....

But it still looks like Poole to me, taken from the powerstation site looking over to what is now Sunseeker sales.

The cylindrical object on the left is located on what became Poole Boat Park, you can still see the foundations in the tarmac there, the church on the right of the picture is in Poole High Street, (the one way bit) and on the far right of the picture is the old Grainery.
