Was this a popular colour scheme for the P16? I remember reading a test on one in the waterski mag from late 80s/early 90s in this colour, which I think had the same 4-cyl (2+2) Merc motor. Looked great and went ok too - I think it ran at 50mph during that test.

Phantom's came in all different colours - Steve Baker was very flexible and sold you want you wanted.

I just worked out that I raced in 4 x P16's - (Tandem & Open deck) The quickest was 56 mph with a 90 HP Yamaha (4 blade Rolla Prop).

My favourite memories of that hull was navigating for my Dad in the 2nd Tandem Deck hull built by Baker - Uber light weight - Getting my nav wrong - But still winning the '82 3B Cancer Research race by a country mile -

Then 12 years later doing Round the Island race in a 5 blowing 6 with Nik Keyser in an open deck P 16' - After we had our helmets ripped off after a stuff, couldn't see the Island for ages due to the huge water -

The little hull brought us home -

We were so pleased to hear the cannon from the Royal Yacht Squadron! Average speed 19 knots.

Update on the P16

Well! to cut a lonnng story short.

It was disapointment for 'Little Miss Nuts'.

Natalie and I went all the way to Devon on friday afternoon to collect what was to be Natalie's first boat. As you might imagine, Natalie was a very excited Girlie!

I/we were lead to believe it was in good condition. 'It just needed a little TLC'.
Unfortunately the description on ebay and in conversations had with the owner over the phone couldn't have been farther from the truth.

When I asked questions regarding the amount of crazying on the hull and deck, I was told there was less than 20% crazing to the deck area where people have walked on it. hmmm. OK!.....I then enquired whether there was any crazing on the hull sides and Transom area's...... I was assured there wasn't.

Anyways, the truth of the matter is that the hull has massive amounts of crazing all over it. Deck, hull sides, etc. etc.
I'm afraid it was just a shattered old dog that had obviously had a hard life.

So!.....we are still looking for a NICE! Phantom 16.....If anyone knows of a nice one for reasonable money....pleeeeease let either of us know.

Cheers

Steve

P.S.

Yes, I shall be giving the owner bad feedback on ebay.
