Phantom 21 transom advice

Can anyone advise please ?

Im interested in a one year old cobra built P21 which is for sale with a 2.5 ss efi fitted. When i looked at the boat the gel coat finish at the very top of the transom was poor and had no capping section to finish it neatly , i have been told this is due to the fact that the hull is designed to take a long shaft engine and the transom has therefore been cut down to suit the short shaft engine. With a little careful work i could tidy the job up with some capping strips, but i just wondered if structurally it is ok to do this, will it affect performance, handling and ultimately affect the secondhand value when i eventually decide to sell. I would be really grateful for any advice. Thanks

mine was cut down right after it was made , but it was poorly capped.

so the result was , that i had to replace the transom this year .

it's no problem for the strength , but be sure it sealed properly.

That does not sound too good, i wonder how long it had been used badly capped to allow the transom to deteriorate to the stage that it needed replacing

it took a while , for the sealent to come loose but then water could come underneath and seap down in the wood.
