That boat is not from the original moulds that were shipped to Portugal. It has the wrong deck.
The deck mould of that earlier style was scrapped in 1995 when the new style was made.

So the only 28's with that deck, are the original 9 from Steve, i.e., build numbers 2 thru' 10 (Richards being the last, from 1993), or splashes derived from one of the 9, most of which, if not all, I think derived from Taz's when it was splashed in Holland..

When you say the wrong deck, do you mean the right deck to make it an early boat and therefore we know it to be non original as the first 9 are accounted for or a totally different deck to any that Steve made?

A faithful copy of the first nine so to speak.

Well, it 'could' be one of the original 9, though I doubt it, and whilst declared year of build is more often than not wrong with used boats, the claim of 2001 is circa 20 years since the majority of the original Mk 1 decks were built...I wonder if it has an RCD HIN?

My post was really intended to point out that whilst the original Phantom 25/28 moulds did end up somewhere in that part of the world as Paul said, that boat wasn't produced from them, as that mould set had the later deck and the original Mk1 deck mould ceased to exist in 1995.

I think this one comes from the Dutch moulds taken from Taz's boat.

As for 'a faithful copy', I can't possibly comment on that.

It was just the use of 'wrong' deck that threw me Jon.

I don't know enough about them to know if we know the whereabouts of the original nine.

And you know when I said faithful I only meant to the untrained eye.

From Steve some time ago:

Hello Jon,
I have, at last, managed to establish the number of 28 hulls we produced.
Some of the detail is hazy ( dates for example ) but I think it’s O.K. as far as the total number is concerned. The order is probably correct but I cannot guarantee it.
So we have:-
1. 1983 ? Blue/white ( ‘Cruiser deck’ - Mike Bellamy’s blue whale ) = known

========================

2. OCL Suzuki ( I’m pretty sure we built this before Brut ) = Unknown became 'Warrior', then 'British Bulldog'.
3. Red/white ( first Brut class II) = Known (france, not good anymore) became 'Sleuth'.
4. 1986 Black boat ( Dealer in Gib. ) = Unknown
5. 1988 Yellow Brut class II ( reasonably light construction ) = Known (spain) became 'Agitator', then pleasure boat.
6. ? All red boat ( Maurice ) = Known (Taz - victim of Dutch splash / re-decked) became inboard, then Taz's boat.
7. 1990 White + red/grey stripes ( Peter and Jan’s cruiser class boat) = Known (france) became pleasure boat of Chris Dodge
8. 1990 All Oxford blue boat ( dealer in Thanet ) = Unknown
9. 1992 All white bare boat ( Malta ? ) = Known (victim of Chaudron splash)
10. 1993 White + red/grey stripes ( U.K. dealer - Triple Yams ) = Known (rich) became Martin's 'Power Products Marine', then scotts then eventually Rich's.

==============

1994 ( Deck mould up-date May ‘94 )
11. 1994 White + ? ( Portugal )
12. 1994 White + blue ( Greece )
13. 1994 White + ? ( Greece )
14. 1995/6 White + black deflector ( Roger Severy’s )
15. 1999/00 White + yellow ( Jon Fuller's )

P28 story

Do you know how many of them were kevlar built?
N° 3 is still in FRANCE, located near Bordeaux fittd with a pair of 300x and for sale every year.
N°7 is still in France too, and may be for sale due to a lack of use after a long restauration.

Number 5, all yellow BRUT was all kevlar.

Roger's and mine have a certain amount of Aramat in the build (deck), not sure about the others.

I think the layup of my boat is quite light, I've seen aramat in the deck and in the sides of hull, plus balsa along the sides.

BRUT had a hard life, and suffered multiple injuries. It was involved in some sort of road traffic accident, and I believe it also had a 'miss-hap' while being craned on the Hamble.
I understand there are lots of repaires in it, plus it's painted ( )

P28 N°3

I think a lot of people are aware of this boat story, thats why it's difficult to sale it, may be the paint was done to mask the repairs. I've pictures of it done in 2005 somewhere when the boat was in white and red, may be before the ''accident'' on the road.
Now, in 2013, if you have a pair of 300X on a boat in France, the government added taxes on boats above 7meters, and above 22 fiscal Horse power, plus the fact the SP98 is at 1.65€per liter, plus 10€ per liter of premium plus oïl, not sure this boat will find a new owner soon, not at all...
Same story for an ELIMINATOR 28 here fitted with a pair of 300X, but the hull of this one didn't suffer of any damage, still very difficult to resale....Very nice boat anyway this cat.
