MMMnn, I wonder why Steve Baker didn't think of this? Have you considered speaking to him about it? after all, he did build these things for 30 odd years and has a reputation for getting things pretty much right.

The 'stock' P21's weren't exactly heavy, in fact, far from it.

Hopefully not another chapter in 'improving things' like we've seen oh so many times!

I don't suppose you're also replacing/*improving* the Longits with foam are you?

Why does everyone think that first thing they should do is alter/change something that works perfectly well already?

I could understand you thinking there's possibly room for improvement once you'd built a few.

Multi axial was not available when the boat was first designed, it is a fabric designed to replace old chopped strand fabrics. This material is not only being used in the marine industry but also areopace and motor racing due to its strength and lightness.

We wouldn't change an excellent design for the sake of. Whats the saying if it aint broke dont fix it...........................................

The design is from '87, but the build schedule was being tweeked way after that, the light, balsa cored aramat 21s were far more recent.

OK, good luck, but remember your last saying, it will haunt you if your 'improvents' turn out to be like everyone elses!

PS. you didn't answer the longit question, and it's important, as the rest of the schedule depends on it..

You sticking with one piece Douglas fir longits?

I may have sounded rather critical, which wasn't the intension.

The thing is, plenty of people seem to do this 'improving' thing, some legaly, some with their spoils of splashing. I find it odd that everyone wants to change things, before they've even tried the proven path. How will you possibly judge the 'improvement'?

It's possible to buy Steves designs, tooling and rights to build, but it's not possible to buy his reputation, which is actually the bit most people would like to have, as a kind, honest and friendly businessman, and as a builder/designer.

I genuinly wish you all the best with the P21 and as you've chosen to aquire the tooling and rights in the proper way, you have my utmost respect. I'd just really like to see someone continue the production of these great boats at a level that their heritage deserves.

That's good news.

As you have them already, I'm sure you'll agree that the tooling is absolutely superb! You'd look for a long time to find mouldings that are so straight & perfect.

Some dialogue with Steve might be handy, as i'm pretty certain you'll find he's tried most of the fandangled ideas along the way, and the schedule he produced and that I assume you have (feckin gert folder full of drawings & instructions) is the result of all that R&D. He is no fool.

I don't know anyone that has bought one - we do the 19's but we haven't had a good look round the construction of one to tell let alone seen a used one to see how they last - maybe someone on here will be able to help?

What size was the one with a Boatmad sticker on? Was it Swipewipes?
