Phantoms vs PWC
Off Colewell / Totland bay today - had a play with a couple of local Phantoms ( 21’s running 200’s ). Hope I did'nt embarrass them in my little old Seadoo – sat at 70 and the tubs couldn’t keep up……………………………

Sorry mate, think were talking about to different things?? I was in Totland bay and watched two white 21’s approaching ( heading westerly ) - nicely trim’d with rooster tail’s. I came alongside the nearest phantom( no 200 yard head start ) , motioned towards the Needles, put my head down and WOT it. Pulled away from the tubs and continued to loose them, backed off after probably a mile or so and waited for the Phantoms to catch me up (my mate, following on a ski confirmed that both boats were falling behind). The nearest driver ( obviously not you Mark ), first claimed he wasn't WOT ( that made me chuckle! ) Then muttered something about changing his prop for a faster one.......................looser!!!! lol.
The Phantom’s were beaten by a RXT 260 RS with a few mods.......( more upgrades on the way ), admittedly, with a bit of chop, Ski’s can’t keep the speed up, but not yesterday!
Keep well, hopefully see you out on the Solent

Horses for courses
I have a P25 and a Seadoo XP, try stopping on a Seadoo, kicking back while listening to the Radio and getting a BJ?
On the other hand try launching a P25 at Mudeford when the tides out!
I wouldn't part with either though

Very true, got a Predator RIB - went out Sat and watched the round the island race off the Needles in some interesting seas! Would’nt have been out there long on a ski! Spent all Sunday lazing on / off Totland beach with family / friends - Skis, RIB's and a Zap cat - sun blazing down, ice cream and splashing around
Had numerous types of boat inc 3 Phantoms, but for convenience - I can get home from work, hitch the Seadoo up and be on the Solent within 15 mins.

The only thing I don't like about skis is being grouped in with all the numpties who ride them but that's not enough to stop me.
Also the ecomony is great and capsizing them and getting back on is a strange concept after the boat!
The most important thing is that we are out there!

So your 11 foot long ski with 260 plus hp beat a 21 foot boat with 200hp . Big deal .
Try racing a 21 Phantom with a 260 efi and I know who'd win , and it wouldn't be the ski .

hopefully, with the new mods in the next week or so I should see mid to late 70's - love to try the 21/260.
My last Phantom was a 20/280 efi - the RXT ‘out of the hole’ was all over the boat, never raced them side by side though for top end

Some valid points raised here, I own a Ring 21 and a Superjet (stand up Jetski) - both are great fun in there respective rights.
I took six of us (including my 6 x week old daughter) from Portsmouth to Fishbourne on Sunday in the Ring 21, moored up and had lunch at the Royal Victoria Yacht club, chilled in the sunshine, couple of us went out for a blast in the Ring after lunch, 60-65mph in the chop awesome fun, came back in, did some crab fishing with my son in the harbour and cruised back to Portsmouth, chilled out and had a great time. Couldnt have done that on my Jet Ski.
That said the Stand Up Jet Ski is immense fun and very challanging, been riding for 10 years and we do freestyle displays all over the place including Ibiza, London Motor Show, White Air etc - totally different sport for me.
Here's one of our video's taken using the wake off a couple of Master Craft ski boats:
I feel lucky to be able to enjoy both, we're all out there together.
Jim

Cool video Jim!
At the end of the day you get idiots on jetskis that give them all a bad name, just like you get idiots in powerboats that give us a bad name. As long as people aren't being a dick, and everyone looks out for each other then it's all good
