Power boat races have a class system, P1 is power to weight ratio.

Our society did away with most classes, but it is satisfying to see that some distinction still applies. ie the ignorant vs the open eyed & educated. If you are so good why don't you enter the p1 supersport class next year as a british entrant. As a Brit I will quite happily cheer u along. Now time for bed kids.

I didn't say you were ignorant, just misguided.

And I didn't say I was good.

Shit! Why didn't you tell me earlier? Now I've gotta sell me ol' boat and buy something that IS a substitute...how about a Range Rover Sport? Or perhaps one of those Yankee trucks?

guys let's not bash each other. the weekend at cowes was fantastic, jon's P28 is a terrific boat i saw it up close and it is really nice. the white P28 which was racing was super fast also and it has great rigging, i looked it up close and it's true, it hasn't got even one stress crack on it. it was also going really fast, i spoke to the owner and he said that he was doing 90mph. as regards the chaudron 33 race boat, you have got to appreciate that the boat is mildly powered with twin 250 outboards so getting 71+mph (which is the actual speed on that boat) is very good. As regards the rigging it is true that the pleasure boats which leave the chaudron factory are much more nicely rigged. i also saw the spectre 30 with twin 225 pro max and spoke to the owner, who is a really nice person with a great boat

Anyway, it seems this thread has drifted way off it's original subject, that is, chaudron appear to build the entire range of phantom boats, without permission or licence. they may well be a pretty good boat, they certainly have a good foundation to work from, but they are still just an illegal copy, produced by a thief!

and spare me the crap about them being different, rounding off a screen doesn't make it their design.

I was told a story on sunday night in Cowes about mr chaudron speaking with Cougar a few years back about buying their 25 cat moulds, and basically saying, if the deal/price wasn't attractive enough for him, he would just splash one!

what a smashing bloke! (or is it 'splashing' bloke)

My personal opinion is, that every pound that goes into chaudrons pocket (or Raffshores for that matter), for a product they stole from Steve Baker, is simply encouraging the practice of copyright theft.

It's nothing new, the world is full of people happy to line their pockets illegally at the cost of others, and in many cases I'm sure they convince themselves they're doing nothing wrong, but I think they are just 'scabs' on society.

kinfasts statement that he is proud of SB's british products, but bought the maltese splash coz it was cheaper (and better) speaks volumes about him.

I wonder how chaudron can build so cheap?

no development costs?

no conscience?

questionable business ethics?

cheap labour?

cheap materials?

What a shame some of us Brits don't have a little more pride in our countries products/peoples achievements!

You are clearly happy with your choice of builder mr kinfast (note the absence of the word 'designer') but please don't try ramming you opinions down the throats of people here who are a little more patriotic.

Steve Baker is a personal friend of mine, he has, over many years, given an enormous amount to British boatbuilding & racing, you/chaudron have stolen from him, repeatedly. for your own personal gain, and now you want respect?

get stuffed asshole

now if anyone is an asshole that's you for not being able to carry out a discussion in a civil manner. i have not stolen anything from mr baker as i have already said before i don't build chaudrons i only bought a boat (33) from them (which mr baker never built a model of anyway) and by the way i don't care for or need your respect

It appears this is a common aspect of maltese mentality, but I was speaking 'collectively', not just my respect.

But you obviously do, as you're 'here' on a British site, trying to get your boats accepted/respected!

And why on earth would I want to be 'civil' over this subject? it's black and white as far as I'm concerened!

goodbye

i see quite rightly that most of the forum members do not agree with people splashing other manufacturers designs if you look on ribnet it has just happened to a manufacturer from cornwall he has posted for advice on this forum under the name of domino .i know i am only a humble tube maker and he is a rib builder but he has had his designs stolen just like steve baker and could do with some support even if it is only to help shame the guilty party as was done to leeway composites . after naming and shaming he should be hung drawn and quartered in my honest but humble opinion:
