Possible new project

With all the interest in the 200 hp offshore class we have been thinking about trying to get one of our old projects on teh go again.

Each winter for the past three years we have got quite close to designing and building a new 2 litre monohull. This has been for various well known racers and has fallen through for various reasons, each time different - although cost of build and cost of racing has not helped. Certainly it has been difficult to keep cost down based on one build. However if we could get a few to do it would make more sense.

Anyway the design keeps evolving and it would make a fantastic project.

The boat is loosely based on our very successful 'Mobil 1' boat - in terms of rough water abilities. Otherwise she is slimmed down quite a lot and would certainly be a lot quicker in the calm. Lots of other new features and a striking machine. Probably looking at two different lay-up specs giving different options on price against weight.

It really would be a way of making a state of the art raceboat at a reasonable cost. Also a race boat that would be competitive in all conditions for UK racing.

If there was enough interest we would certainly look at tooling up and doing full moulds.

Adam are you saying that you are looing at doing a modern version so to speak of our boat? With slight modifications to. Sounds like a good idea let me know if/what happens?

In many ways it is an update of your boat - but at the same time it would look very different.

The boat is a similar length, i.e. around 24', but is generally a 'slimmer' boat. It does use a lot of information that we gained from your boat - which is after all still the best rough weather boat out there (imho).

At the moment the new design is on CAD - but we will have to get some 3D renderings together.

The whole approach to the design is create an extremely efficient craft. This is terms of design, build and operation.

There are a number of things we want to try to aid racing. This includes a seperate moulding for the cockpit. Basically the whole cockpit would be a drop in, with dashboards, seat bases etc included. This would all save with rigging and also provide a virtually waterproof hull. It is also likely that we will have removeable wings and a removeable anti-stuffing bow moulding. This would give various options to set-up etc.

Otherwise the hull is double stepped with our double chine arrangement. The design allows for winglets (i.e. batboat arrangement).

Be silly not to - we would just be very careful with which magazines were allowed to test it!!

Certainly would be looking to have a production version as well. The modular approach is something I have had in mind for some time now and I think would work really well. It would also give the chance to update boat is time or allow customers to go with different options.

As to performance I believe there would be conditions when the proposed boat would be the best on the water - no doubt. I would probably sacrifice a couple of mph top end (say compared to the quickest b23) for a boat that handles better in all sea conditions and I'm sure you would have a better boat for the UK.

As for the cat- again I believe there will be conditions when she will come into her own. Really excited by the potential now and I think a few people will be surprised at how quick she will run this year.

Adam I presume you're referring to RI. What were your feelings/opinions about that report?

Cannot say too much at the moment, as I still have not calmed down enough. A lot of people have been out on that boat and handling has never been a problem - indeed most people have been extremely impressed.

My phone has been very busy as a result!

Well Adam you know were we are so if you want to use our boat for testing and making modifications, and for any more ideas i am sure things can be aranged? Sounsds as though this is going to be really nice boat!
