Project - Phantom 23

The new year brought a new project for me and I am now a very proud owner of a Phantom 23!

A massive thank you to Rich (driver510)for sourcing the boat for me and also shortshafting engine, Lee for letting us borrow his trailer board and of course to dad for helping arrange everything and towing it home for me!......ooh and mum for allowing aannnother boat on the drive!

Lots planned..... first thing to go will be all the stickers

Cant wait for this season to take off!

You're only supposed to blow the doors off!

As some of you may already be aware we've had a bit of a set back over this weekend.
So thanks to those who knew for your kind words of support.

Long story short then.
As the existing petrol tank was toooo large for the intended single 350 Mad installation and Ross was in the throws of cutting it out.....when! Ka-boom!
There was, to say the least, a bit of a petrol vapour explosion.
Unfortunately Ross, or more to the point his face and hands were just above.
Consequently he now has second degree burns to his hands and face. After some earlier scares from the local hospitals nurse stating "He won't be as bad as Simon West the Faulklands Soldier"...Grrr W**ker. The good news is that the plastic surgeon confirmed there shouldn't been any permanent damage. Thank God! The bad news is that it'll take a while for him to heel and get his ole pretty boy good looks back....lol.

And even better news....he's coming home today.

Sooo Welcome Home Son!

P.S. Your grounded!

Thanks guys.

He'll be as good as new.

In fact, the surgeon said he'll look younger then before as it's just like he's given himself a chemical peel....lol.

The lengths some people will go too in name of vanity...really!

Thanks for your concerns Derek...lol.

Yes of course! The Phantom's fine. Not a mark on it.

Ross and I dived into the boat to put the fire out first, then Ross literally showered himself under the hose pipe to take the heat out of the burn. Then a quick change out of the soaked clothing and off to the local hospital, just 5 minutes up the road.
Simples!

Christ! I nearly did the same once about to burn some old adhesive off the filler neck of a half full fuel tank (long story!)
Thankfully I realised the error of my ways before I started!

Hope he's well on the mend,

All the best, James

Thumbs up

Yes been there myself years ago with a fibreglass tank that had been cleaned out! (not well enough obviously). I Remember how much that hurt, and what I got can't have been half as bad as Ross's experience - no trip to the hospital for me just a lack of facial hair and a very high fringe! Good luck and get well soon mate.

Congratulations on the new boat and sorry to hear about your accident hope you recover soon. Phantom 23 has to be one of the finest hulls ever built for its length, I’m sure its going to be an excellent setup.

I don’t know what it is with tanks and petrol but I have even steam cleaned them in the past and they still go pop when you cut or weld them. I now purge them with CO2 or pub gas, if its mild steal or argon if its aluminum or stainless for welding. I have heard of people filling them with exhaust fumes but I’m not sure about that one.

Good luck

Funny i was told about that one yesterday, apparently that is true about the exhaust fumes. My dad used to work on petrol station tanks years ago.
