Who decides if you qualify ? How much experience do you need to qualify and who decides if your qualifications are sufficient ?
This bylaw has existed since records week began on Coniston so who decided to uphold it and why ??

Yup K4 boat. I watched him go down the river on its maiden voyage today and I reckon he'll get a gold star at Coniston .

I suspect the upholding was something to do with last years crash, presumably by the records club committee. (But I am only guessing)
One of your RYA Affilliated Club Officials has to sign your Licence Application form, so its down to your club !!

Steve, a friendly reminder and knowing you I'm sure you are not really that bothered, but as Roofer has mentioned it I would check to see if Inboard Immersed Propeller would actually get you a gold star as the rules changed last year. I believe it has to be a recognised class UIM record and you may have to have had qualifying results as well. Maybe a different class would be better. Good Luck ! look forward to it.

so why is an event licence good for a marathon national.last year i broke a national record on an event licence so obvious i broke bylaws along with others no doult.the reason i had no licence was rya in their wisdom only alound rb08 licence for 3 weeks.so it cost me an event licence.
this year what would be the point of a national licence as boat has only just been finished and if i did last national marathon event next week common sense would say get an event licence .
at end of the day just owing a national lisence does,nt make you a good driver,or record breaker.
love to know what licence and events you need to compete in for electric, turbine, steam records,

Many thanks Steve - just really good to see her back on the water and all credit to you.
Always fancied the idea of an inboard engine for her. Actually when she was first designed / built we had interest from an American team who were looking at importing versions for fitting with either an inboard or a single 300hp OMC outboard! Unfortunately - I had so many problems with my old XR2's when first launched that it took far too long to see the potential of the boat.
All the best with her -and hope something can get sorted out for Coniston.

Yeah I know, was just pushing my luck
Shame there is no safe & reasonable solution. Possibly along the lines of temporary membership of an RYA affiliated club who would sensibly endorse a national license based on known experience of the driver.
