Question : outboard mounting

Hi Guys!

I have a question. We drove Fletcher Boats the last 15 Years , and there it was necessary ( if you are mounting the outboard to the boat ) to put the outboard 3 cm ( it is 1,25 inches ) to the right ( seen , when standing behind the boat , i mean to the direction of the steering wheel ).

It was on the following models:

Fletcher 160 / 161 with 115 HP
Fletcher 199 from 115 to 225 HP

I dont know on what it depends ( horsepower? Beam of boat ? )

Can you tell me , if it is necessary to do it on all Fletchers ?
Many Years ago we had an Fletcher 199 and 115 HP , this stupid Engine-dealer mounted it in the center and the boat was driving very bad - it was not in scale!
At this time ( i think it was around 1989 ) our local Fletcher dealer in Hamburg ( he isnt selling Fletcher today :-( )
told us that there are lists for Fletcher boats and how the outboard has to be mounted!

can you help me? Is it the same situation on Phantom Boats? I think they have one thing in common: They dont have much beam....

engine on my Phantom 20 is dead centre and i dont have any problems

we run fletcher 14' with 40 yammie in the ctr too

Hello Andi.
It is true that Fletcher recomended larger engines on the 199, 165 and 155 models should be off center to the right. The engine is also mounted 2 cm to the right on my 199. I do not have the documentation from Fletcher, but I am working on getting more of such documents from Fletcher and
make them available for download on www.fletchermarine.com -
The site will soon be released in a finished version, and made
accesible from google searches and the likes.

Currently thinking of buying a fletcher! Regards to the mounting of engines on our Phantom16 its mounted off centre by about 2cm adjusted when we raised then engine up I was told it was to correct torque steer?!

Went to view a boat on saturday and it had a piece of marine ply between the outboard and the transom on the rear of the boat is this normal?

Here is my 2 cents:

Normal ? - Not really but there can be a number of reasons to install a plywood plate between engine and transom. I would look the engine installation very carefully over for cracks in the gelcoat etc, as such a setup can put an extra amount of stress on the transom.

Probably they created a bit more setback than its normal...
