Cheers Paul,

So how does it work then? Is like a heat shrink or something?

What are the benefits over paint, does it leave a stronger more resilient surface than paint?

Is it easier in terms of re doing it after a few years if necessary?

Cheers

It's a special cast highly flexible adhesive vinyl, there's loads of tricks that go into applying it seamlessly, but yeah heat it is a big part.

It won't chip like paint, but it will mark and scuff if you abuse it, but then again so does gel. The obvious benefit is you can have any design/graphic job printed and laminated onto the wrap itself. As long as you're careful with it and use fender socks etc it'll look great for many years. If you do scratch or scuff it badly then a skilled sign writer should be able to remove the damaged piece and let in a new one. There'll be a join of course but barely noticeable if done right. As I've been rigging my boat I must've climbed and slid over the gunwales hundreds of times, but it's still absolutely perfect.

If the surface underneath is sound then it's just a case of peeling it off with heat, removing the glue residue and reapplying the new vinyl. Problems come where like mine the adhesive pulled off tiny pieces of the paint underneath the original wrap, but then again my boat has no gel just primer on top of the glass.

Worth noting he'd run out of petrol at the time and you were doing a "Team America" to give him a tow home.....

It could be done, don't know how long it would last though as water pressure is pretty brutal!

I had mine painted, and ran the paint up about 2" above the chines. The wrap overlaps that my about 1.5", and the edge is going to get a 2" strip of extremely strong hard wearing clear vinyl to try and stop water getting under the edge and peeling it

Had my fletcher done by a guy in southampton, all the red and the chequered flag part and the white are on piece, he printed all the colours on vinyl and stunk it on the boat it looked amazing.
