Ring 20 help needed!

Hi all,
I restored my ring 20 last year. I was advised to put a xl shaft engine on it so sourced and fitted a 150hp Yamaha outboard xl shaft. Running a 23” pitch laser 2 prop. Boat was mega unstable and wouldn’t go past 45-50mph running at 4200-4500revs. Was advised again the shaft was too long which was causing drag and slowing the boat. Iv recently had the transom completely rebuilt and a jack plate fitted lifting the engine as high as it can be. Took the boat out the other day. Loads more stable but no more than 45-50mph at 4500 revs. Iv seen these boats with exactly the same engines doing 70+. I’m at a loose end and have no idea what to do? Any advice is welcome? Anybody got any idea why I’m struggling? Thanks matt

Recomended rpm for your engine is 5200-5500.
Running 4500 rpm is in the low range, not giving your engine enough tourqe.

I think 70mph with a 150 is a little hopeful but you still need to get rid of the 25” leg. Lowering the COG will definitely help with everything. Ring 20’s are old school and they have always responded well to choppers, ET’s and possibly a Tempest. That is when you need to be sure the steering is tight and the mounts are solid.
