Depends where you start from.
Done it a few times from Poole but the last bit of the mainland is about 40 miles ( i think ). On a calm day it's easy and could be done in any boat.
Just remember you have to come back so need a good forecast.
The islands are a great place to visit. St Agnes for lunch and St Martins for the worlds most expensive cream tea and then back to St Marys for beer!
Perfect!

No Mr Rat its not a mad idea, quite a nice idea, I know a lad who took a ring 16 from guernsey to poole, he just followed condor all the way. It has to be really good weather tho. I hope you have good weather for your trip - by the look of the way you drive your boats it won't take long - good man!!

You can launch at Penzance harbour (dries out) and there's a large public car park where you can leave the car & trailer, but it's not cheap.
I've done the crossing from Mylor/Falmouth, which doubles the distance travelled, but it's a nice bit of coastline and the parking at Mylor works out cheaper, almost justifying the longer sea route

I dunno - only been across there once, in May last year. Intended to stay 3 nights, but the day of our planned return turned out to be a F8, so we stopped an extra night. We stayed on Bryher, which has very limited entertainment on a rainy, windy day. Nice pub though.

scilly's
Getting accomadation there is sometimes a bit tricky but you can camp on st mary,s ,running the gauntlet through the shipping lanes is the best bit those ships run a fair speed and there aint a massive gap between them plus there coming from both ways. went there couple if years ago in the mirage from falmouth we went in march it was pritty choppy, the tide seams to make a fair difference to the sea conditions esp of the lizard it took us 1hr 40 Do it
