speed limit

how can a speed limit be inforced on water ? how would they go about getting your speed with a gun ? as vidieo would be no good on moving tide would it?

I think some of the speeders caught have been proven through radar spotting.

Certainly East Coast around Harwich/Felixstowe ports the authorities manage the big vessels on the river very closely using radar...with a bit of software it's not too difficult to automatically identify stuff travelling over a certain speed.

We're not talking about the difference between doing 10 knots in an 8 knot limit (which might be tidal flow) we're talking about doing 20 knots in an 8 knot limit.

I can imagine it's the same in most "controlled" waterways like Southampton and others...

The idea of plod sitting on the river bank with a laser gun AND having a boat on the water to give chase and give you a ticket sounds all wrong.

I can imagine the harbour authority watching me hammer down the Orwell at 40 knots (8 knot limit!) and having a Harwich Haven cutter siting at the end of the river ready to make their presence known.

If your an NPA Warden on Windermere " I reakon you was doin over 10" seems to be enough.

this is to do with the channel were i go on walney. they say there is a speed limit i cant see how they can police it how can you have fun going slow
