Stewartby lake, Bedfordshire.

Dudes,

Got my RYA magazine today, and there was a pic of powerboat racing at Stewartby Lake in Bedfordshire in there.

Anyone know anything about this place? Reason I ask is that I'll be storing my prospective new boat at Bedford marina, which is only a short trip from there. Are there speed limits like most other places? Launching slips readily available?

I realise it's not like the ocean, but I was thinking that it'd be a handy place for 'shakedown runs' after maintenance, etc. Best to find and fix problems on an inland lake rather than discover them at sea!

Do you need any sort of 'permit' or 'tax' to use a boat in places like this?

Excuse my ignorance as I'm new to all this, but if anyone's got any experience of this I'd be interested to hear about it. Google hasn't yet thrown up much info on it.

Cheers all!

That was my first ever ski race. Scared the sh*t out of me everytime I fell in. I also froze my nuts off, it was April and I was wearing a shortie!! Certainly learnt the hard way!!!

Cheers for that!

I've emailed them, so we'll see what they say. I'll post the results back on here too.
