Hi Taz, I had a Mohawk a few years ago with the same motors and 280 duoprop drives. They are great boats, should be good for about 45 or more knots. Engines are good too providing that they have been looked after. If the worst happens and you blow one then they are as cheap as chips in the states. One thing to check is the port drive into reverse. If it is really stiff to get into reverse its becasue the cone clutch in the drive has semi seized. This happens because the reverse cone sits out of te oil bath in the drive ad can ofeten corrode if there is any moisture in the drive. If it siezes and you are lucky you can trim up the drive, take off the rear gearchange cover plate and whack it out of gear with a big hammer and cold chisel. If you are unlucky its boat out of the water and a new cone clutch at about £2K.
I would advise stainless dueprops if you can stretch to them, good for a few more knots and resist the knocks and corrosion.
Boats are far better built than now, hulls generallyvery tough, a good machine polish usually brings them up really nicely. People like Flexicovers in Poole still have all the patterns for covers so they are easy to replace.
Blue hulled ones probably worth a little more than red/ grey or plain white as they are still modern looking boats. Beware of any that have had their gel stripes repainted to blue and are not original.
Go fo it !

Personally, I reckon a Formula 292 would fit the bill perfectly!

taz the one at lymington was kept at cobbs quay dry stacked about 2 years ago owned by a pal of mine he px for 31 tornado windy, was sound boat but motors need some work, which i think the present owner had done , might be worth a call to sal marine in lymington speak to simon ,its been for sale for a while so there should be a deal to be done i went out on it and it ran 46 knot's but it likes a bit of juice depend 's on how heavy you are with the hammers though nice boat good luck

I dont know got a few other boats to look at. He said make an offer, The thing is its a classic boat so everything bit dated i know there poorly built but bayliner and regal boats provide so much more for 30k!
Looking at a searay 290 2mo might try see a sunseeker monterey 27 aswell there only around 15k

same critisisms as the Searay. I know I'm tarring them all with the same brush; but my perception of production yank boats is the newer they are the shitter the build quality.
I personally quite like the smaller sunseekers; but wouldnt want to be laying out 30 grand on one. Have you seriousely considered Matts Formula? Having had the pleasure of doing 60mph (perhaps a nadgers more) in it, I reckon its really qute nice. He's made some nice additions since then as well.
thers me tuppennies worth
