Give me a price! Or better still, how about offering it up to the highest bidder with the proceeds going to the Save Our Boating Heritage fund (i.e. Surfury!)

The only place the model fell down was the fibreglass plane on the back which came with the kit wasn't realistic & at the time as a 15 year old I couldt afford the fancy bits to make it more realistic. Just hope he still has it..... funny the thought never occured that it might be worth keeping.

Nigel where I can find who made Cig.36' models?
I have just one in fiberglass but I'm interest to others.

Not sure if you can still buy them from anybody these days. SHG used to make them (they are still trading in some form and have a website too) but I don't believe they do now. Here is their site link. Maybe you could ask them directly if they know of anybody who has one kicking about somewhere?? Although I think the chances of that are probably fairly remote.

I think I have mentioned on another thread that my father has fibreglass moulds for 35, 36, 37 & 40 Cigarettes in 1/12th scale.
The models of Peter Stuyvesant and Limit Up in the Basildon Powerboat Museum are his. He also has "I Like It Too" and would you believe he also has a model of Surfury that needs a lot of TLC.

1/12th scale is equivalent to 1 inch = 1foot therefore 36' becomes 36". Easy ehh!!! They were done that scale because Airfix did 1/12th scale Coldstream Guards. Its amazing what you can do with P38, some paint, a steady hand and a lot of patience. Behold we have a driver, navigator and Throttleman.

If you could copy onto DVD or even onto video it would be great. Drop me a line on chris.grayer@btinternet.com if it helps. Film is rare - especially detail.

Thanks to all of you who have shown interest.

Cheers Chris

The story behind Surfury being towed is probably linked to the issue that Ricki Gardner recently described to me :- "Surfury had no reverse, so bringing her into the shore was simply a matter of disengaging the engines at the right moment". Clearly with that much power from her Daytonas and a single prop - a few additional revs would provide a very immediate reaction - very fast & very forward! Not for the faint hearted.
I think thats why you always see somebody sitting on her bows in the very few photos that exist of her close to pontoons etc....

Matt - on the subject of "Surfury" ownership. She is currently owned by the NMM to which she was left by the Charles Gardner. We are trying to see if Basildon can adopt her, which they will only so do if we can improve her cosmetically & provide some exhibition interest, as their priorities correctly are to the race craft that they own. Its a bit of a two way process - if the interest is there, Bsildon are interested. If not, they dont want her & the NMM will put her into private store & then, inevitably....... Goodnight Surfury!!
Full details are on the web site
Regards Chris

Surfury is a great boat and one that is worthy of restoration. Do any of you remember the other Levi design that was done for Thunderbird?

Dick Genth drove this boat...it sank in a Bahamas race.

chris,i checked the video last night, and it is all of surfury from the cowes torquay.im not sure what year it is but the other boats were speedy gonzales, delta synthesis and hydrosonic special. on surfury there were 3 crew one with groves and gutridge overalls on,he was the guy who had to fill one of the engines with oil while still racing. it is excellent viewing mostly taken by helicopter with very close action. the video is on my desk,so let me have an address to send it to,so you can copy it

Sounds like this video should be digitised! ie, saved to DVD/hard drive.

If you're gonna be at the Poker run weekend, we could do it there!

how long is it?
