Team Hansen Marine, Offshore racing in Sweden

Hey!

I am a member of a Swedish Offshore team. I want to share what I do and how the racing in Sweden are

We race in the V-150 national class. Single hulls without wings or steps. The engine´s driveshaft have to be atleast 2.5 cm under the lowest point of the hull.
We are around 14 boats that compete in Sweden and around 8 in Finland.
This year there was a Nordic Championship in Finland that our team competed in. We won that race!

Our boat is a Crum 21 modified beyond recognition. We race with a Mariner Magnum III. Basicly a Mercury XR6 but with a fancy paintjob. (Not so fancy after some tough races)
The driver is Marcus Friberg and the navigator is Linus Hjelte. Me and Anders Almpo are mechanics and slaves in many forms.

We have raced these competitions this year:

Öregrund: "Klubbmästerskap" A race only for those that are members of Öregrund race club. We won that race and came 2nd in the total.

Nordic Championship in Finland: We won that race after tough race in the unforgiving finnish waters.

Oskarshamn Offshore: We had the second place and was closing in when our gearcase said goodbye so we had to stop. Luckily we had a spare gearcase with us so for the second race we just swapped. But that wasnt any good either. Not enough cooling so the engine temp went up like crazy. 2 DNF in the first Swedish championship. Not good!

Smögen Offshore: 2 races as well. REALLY big waves in Smögen, 2.5-3m high!
We where in a solid 2nd position when Linus passed out cuz of a big wave. When he woke up he said: GOGO so Marcus went for it. unfortunately Marcus missed a turn when Linus was "half awake" so we were disqualified.
On the second race Linus was fit for fight again. We had some troubles with the foot throttle however so Marcus couldnt go a 100%. Still managed a 2nd place, our first Swedish cup points!

Roslagsloppet: The biggest race in Sweden. You drive from point A to B. No laps. This was a race when everything for the first time everything actually worked as plan. The boat was faster than a speeding bullet, we won the race and on the controll after he race we saw that the engine was 1cm to low! We could raise it more. More speed!

Nynäshamn Offshore: Rough sea with about 1.5-2m waves. Marcus and Linus was in second position when the engine almost fell off due to the bolts on the lift broke. DNF.... However, I did my first Offshore race as a navigator in annother boat and we finished 3rd. It was so much fun, I will do that more times for sure!

Saltsjöloppet: This is our next race. 7th September in Åkersberga, residance of the famous ELK I will once again navigate in a boat and Marcus and Linus compete in the same class as me. Abit odd but it works out fine!

Some YouTube links from the cameras that we have on the boat! Text in Swedish but you all know that right?

And som pictures of our boat. got PLENTY of em if you wonna see more
Or check my Facebook.
Just hit me with questions if you have any!

Steps

Hi Zander,
You say no steps are allowed in your class,in picture 4 it would appear your hull has a step about 2' from the transom. Or is it just the camera angle?

Hello!

Well its my english screwing up. With steps i mean those kind of steps on a Bat 23 och Backdraft. What the correct word is I do not know...

We have a air outlet in the hull, that is allowed!

Vented steps? Though I'm sure someone will correct me. And your English isn't bad at all.
Good vids by the way

Steps

Andy that is not a step on that boat, it is a pad. Like the Tintorera the pad starts abruptly i.e the vee stops and the pad starts. When they say steps they mean the batboat type i.e ones where the whole bottom of the boat is stepped. Most of the larger Phantoms run on pads, it's just that they are intergrated into the line of the keel so you do not see the abrupt change on them. Hope that helps.

V-150

Some more pics from the boats in our class. A very popular boat is the HotShot. A swedish made boat with great success in many different classes in Sweden. Frodé 21 is also a common boat.

This year big suprise is a Argo 21 that my very good friend Mange Pettersson drives. Old boat but its very good in the rough.
They have been driving Phantoms as well but they lack a bit of topspeed to be really competitive.
