Thames speed limits - urgent!
The Port of London Authority have published a draft of the new byelaws they are proposing for the tidal Thames. This includes a 12 knot speed limit from Wandsworth to Margaretness, downriver from the Thames Barrier, opposite Barking Creek.
We had some posts a while back with links to an on-line petition. It's a start (or would be if more people signed it!), but formal responses to the draft byelaws are much more likely to be considered.
If you disagree with any of the proposed changes then it's really important that you take the opportunity to say so before 25 July. After that, it's no good moaning because you will have had your chance!
Any comments you may have should be addressed, in writing, to
Julian Parkes,
Harbour Master(SMS)
Port of London Authority
London River House
Royal Pier Road
Gravesend,
Kent
DA12 2BG
or by email: cn@pola.co.uk to arrive no later than Friday 25 July 2008.
Here are a few useful links:

Sample feedback letter #1
Sample feedback letter #2 (shorter!)
Feel free to cut and paste from the sample letters if you like, or just write your own. Whatever, just do something!

I love the fact you've even done a standard letter for us to sign and send.

You really can't be arsed, but at the same time you don't want to prove me right . . .?

Nah. Should I now not do it because I can't be arsed, or because now you've insulted me I have to stubbornly refuse to have anything to do with it.

Anybody know what came of these proposals. PLA site now deftly avoids all mention of them and no new notices to mariners so assume they were just dropped??????

Thanks for that Info Johnny, just in time as I want to run a LONG race down the Thames (Tower Bridge to Portsmouth) in 2010. So I will try and get the rest of the racing fleet to sign up soonest. Well done in tipping us off.

Mike from memory the public consultation was to last until end of July for receipt of objections.
The strange thing is it's just gone totally quiet and there is not one single reference to it on their new revised site.
Not in news or current consultations etc, which being the suspicious sort I am, leads me to believe they are now taking an underhand route to pushing through whatever they feel fit
Perhaps a letter to clarify or better still ask Boris his position?

If thats the case it will be the death of racing.
How many fans will stay away from Lemans of F1 if all we can here is a whistle
Guess thats why on the RB8 and CTC videos there was all that music.

6 plus 2 v10s
If you include outboards against diesel and take out the classic class boats pretty even i guess
Lets see what happens in the future (if any one has any money left in the current climate ) with diesel and petrol now the cost price is similar.
Why has P1 gone back to petrol.

I meant entries, not engines, that means there were 60 diesels!
P1 has broken, inaffective, and un-policable rules. as they are, you'd be a fool to run anything but supercharged petrols & electonically managed petrol V8's V10's

OK, apparently the feedback has now been "reviewed" and their findings will be circulated in the next day or so.

Does that mean that we will not have our chance to send in a bundle of signed letters?
