The Midas Project

Well the cover came off, got little dew drops dripping off my nose & the cover has gone back on. Been spending my time sourcing & assembling the required bits as I’ll want a straight run once things get moving. Bead blaster has been busy with what’s come off so far, I was really tempted to go the anodizing route but decided that although it would look lovely there was only a small bling advantage that didn’t justify the cost. So it’s in etch primer ready for some colour. Barney “Metallic” Purple……..
I have decided to go hydraulic on the steering and pull out the double ride-guide. It will mean less feel but too old and unfit for all the huffing & puffing outside of the bedroom.
I am a bit fatter in the upper body than Mark so by the time the helm unit goes in it will move the wheel even further back to my chest. So it looks like one of three choices, move the dash forward, cut out the bridge and move the seat back along with the throttle & footboard as the legs are about right, loose some weight but that’s the most difficult and involves more work than the other two so it’s very unlikely to do that.
There are a few bits to pull out and refurbish, all the cables need a damm good lube as expected. Some for the bin though as the ends are a little naff. Not functioned any of the electrical stuff yet, I think I will just pull it and bench test it first. All in all although it’s a re-rig everything is pretty much there, its much quicker to unbolt & check, refit than think about it, the time is wasted thinking about where shall I put it, oh have I got the bolts, where’s the drill or hole cutter, ect, ect, that’s what takes the time. Re-bush the lifter & fuel feed layout is in the appointment book also.
I will rewire it’s as cheap as chips just a little time consuming but heck you are only talking RPM, Temp, Fuel Pump, Start, Stop, jack plugs, Nav Lights & a couple of bilge pumps with a few positive tails in there for good luck anyhow.
It will need a repaint but that’s due mostly to storage scabs and scraps in places rather than wear & deterioration of the paint. Though I do need to touch in some of the underside varnish but I might go paint instead. I suppose painting could well be the biggest job, closely followed by some patching on the trailer.
I don’t see much chance of getting into it for at least another month or so & looking forward to the lighter evenings when I can crack on a bit. As much as I’d loved to be out and about for the start of the season, just too much to do around the house & work front for it to be achievable.
Thank you to a lot people here for answering my dumb ass questions and assistance especially TD, there was a point to it all and I’m catching up and restoring the performance boating cranial database at an accelerated rate.
Cheers Guys.
